Savage has a fairly new rifle

It is a bolt action (right hand) however the port is on the left side. Now I'm sure that someone here can tell me why this would be an advantage?!?

Convenient when shooting off a benchrest. The loading port is right in front of you to get the empty and put in a loaded round.

So am I to understand that you operate the bolt with your right hand and handle reloads with your left? This seems like something that'd only be convienient if your rifle was held in place with a rest or somthing.

It's for the target shooters or the guys who spend a lot of time popping varmits. Much less movement with this design.
Makes sense for them. Not for the average hunter/shooter though.
I think it's a great idea, just not for everyone.
