Yep I want to buy a FAL.
Not a fixer-upper, good to go out of the box.
Which is the best bang for the buck?

Not the cheapest, but I think certainly one of the nicest.......DSA SA58.

some of the most unreliable firearms out there are poorly assemble FALs.
Get a DSA STG-58.

The FAL Files (http://www.falfiles.com) has a lot of good info. Many of the guys will tell you that you can build a FAL. You can, in fact, with a receiver, parts kit, proper number of US tools, a good set of instructions, and the proper tools. I, for one, wouldn't recommend that to someone who's new to the FAL, though. Headspacing a rifle is gunsmith territory, and if you get it wrong, you have big problems. Since I don't have the necessary equipement to build a FAL, I haven't done so.
But you want good to go out of the box, so that rules out that. "No fixer-uppers" prettymuch rules out the Century parts guns, too. Entreprise (http://www.entreprise.com) makes FALs, but they have a splotchy rep for quality control. Your best bet is DS Arms (http://www.dsarms.com), and their STG58A Authentic Austrian FAL. I have one and it's an excellent rifle (built off of top-notch surplus Austrian parts). It also costs several hundred less than a stardard FAL. I paid $950 out the door for mine, though the dealer price is lower.
Also, Arizona Response Systems (http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com) builds and sells FALs. If you buy a parts kit (available from DSA and others), the US parts (from DSA, Tapco (http://www.tapco.com) and others), and the receiver (DSA makes the best FAL receiver ever made, IMHO), you can send it to ARS to be built and refinished. All of that might come in less costly than buying one, though there's quite a bit of hassle involved.
Best bet is an STG58A Authentic Austrian FAL. I love mine. Accurate, reliable enough to bet my life on, rugged.

I have owned and used original Belgian, DSA, and Arizona Response Systems. All are excellent. I'd take a pass on any of the bargain FALs out there. Having Mark Graham at ARS build up a rifle from DSA parts gets you the best of both worlds. Enjoy.
