Well, I have decided what rifle to get. But I still live at home with mom. (only 19, and going to college, so im poor) She has never been around guns much, so feels very uncomfortable with me getting one. I told her I would take a safety class to make sure I know as much as I can, and to be as safe as I can. I live in Arizona, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any free/cheep gun classes? I looked up on the NRA web site, and found a rifle class, but it was like 175$, and I think this is to become certified. Which it not necessarily required. Can anyone give any advice on how I should tackle this issue, so that I may continue to shoot.

Check your state's Hunter Education curriculum. This might give you a basic rifle-handling training and a certificate in safe handling. Such courses are usually fairly low-cost.

1) Check the NRA webpage for classes offered by NRA-certified instructors.
2) Ask at your local range
3) Ask at your local gunstore
4) Ask a cop - they might have a range that offers safety training

Take your mom to the training with you. It doesn't sound like your mom is an anti, just uncomfortable with firearms. The easiest way to remove lack of comfort is to get some good quality instruction. Plus, every single person that is capable of handling the firearm should be capable of checking, unloading, and securing every single firearm in the house whether or not they will actually every have to do it.

our state offers free Womens Firearms Sports clinics. see if you can get your mom to go so you can piggy back on the free training by going with her.

I seem to recall the Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association training courses as being reasonably priced: Arizona Firearms Training Schedule (http://www.asrpa.com/training/schedule.htm)
