I think a lot of folks find the 'manual of arms' for handling a pump easier to master, than that for a semi auto. I know that I am far more comfortable in grabbing a pump when things go 'bump in the night' than a semi Auto.
I believe that the usual pumps that are used for HD also have many more options for making them more suitable for that task than semi autos do.
Still, that old Remington 1100 or Browning A5 will certainly do the job though, if you have the right load in it, and have practiced.

I grew up shooting a Rem 11 so I favor an auto. My arms were too short to reach the slide grip on a pump. If I had grown up shooting a pump, I would probably favor a pump. My second choice is a double. Buck in one barrel and slug in the other, and, you can pull both triggers at the same time................It just depends on what rocks your boat.......chris3
