I recently posted in the Gorilla Glue thread about an M-39 I bought with a cracked stock.

Today I partially assembled the M-39 and took it to the range. I put it together with no accessories, just the basic repaired and partially cleaned stock and barreled receiver. I wanted to make sure the stock didn't get any extra protection from recoil. I then ran about 200 rounds of Albanian surplus through the poor thing in three batches of rapid fire, stinking up the range and making the barrel hot enough to smoke the oil out of the end of the stock. That's about as much as I'm willing to push a 109 year old receiver in one sitting.
Results--the split didn't budge and the glue, amazingly enough, held together. I must admit I'm a little surprised after all the reports indicating it would pop back open when it got hot and battered. But we shall see. I'm going to have to refinish the stock due to that crack and others.
