My new Yugo M70

I always wanted a AKMS-style AK with the underfolding stock. The newly imported M70 fullfilled that wish. This was the first underfolders I've come across that are reasonably priced. As far as I know, these guns are new to the market. Apparently a parts kit has been availible though.

I havn't got a chance to shoot it yet. The store only had a few boxes of Wolf HP left which I promptly bought up.

The only thing that bugs me is that the barrel is not chromed. Is this a big drawback?

Anyway, the only AK I've owned was a SAR-1. Here is my comparison between the two.

Pros

-Its grip is larger and feels better than a factory SAR grip.
-The folding stock is longer and bigger than a typical AK wood stock which is very undersized in my opinion
-The finish is excellent.
-So is the S# and CAI markings. Nothing like my SAR which looks like an 8 year-old carved them in with a pocket knife.
-Bayonet lug, though I don't know if a typical AK bayonet will fit.
-Magazine has a special follower that catches the bolt and acts as a crude hold open device. It may not allow for instant charging of a fresh magazine but it does let you know when you are dry.
-Standard AK slanted muzzle break.
-The action seems more solid. The bolt carrier fits nice and moves very smoothly. My SAR carrier was lose and clanked about.

Cons

-It has a lot of the typical useless SKS Yugo crap (flip up grenade launcher sights, flip night sights with nothing in them)
-Its heavier than my SAR. Which could be good in terms of durability but generally lighter = better.
-The furniture is rough and mismatched (this can be fixed). Even my SAR which is notorious for ugly furniture looked better.
-It has a take down pin for the receiver cover for some ungodly reason and makes it much harder to get the cover back on.
-It doesn't have a chromed barrel unlike my SAR-1.
-The cover, gas tube, safety lever and stock are gray while the receiver and barrel are black. Not that bad but it is noticeable.
-The barrel is not chromed.

The receiver cover goes back on real easy. Use the pin in the back of the receiver to hold the latch back until you have the receiver cover in place. Then release the side pin.

Mine came with a bayonet and it fits.

Most of my rifles donít have chrome lined barrels. Hasnít been a problem and might shoot better.

They sure are lots of fun.

Chrome barrel isn't really needed for non-combat shooters. If you must get it done you can. They'll even hard chrome the outside.

Where did you get it from? Aim has a 3 months backorder on them. And i see they have pulled them off their web site.

It was sitting next to the Romanians at my local gun shop.

Obviously I knew it wouldn't be there much longer so I got it on the spot.
