Is there any way to smooth this thing out other than shooting it through a case, or any other good mods that don't cost more than my household tools?

Well, if you're the type of person to do things slow and in moderation, I could recommend using a bit of bore paste on the high points of the bolt - the ones that are the shiniest, then once the action is smoother, use a bit all over the bolt.

If you're the type of person that dives in feet first and will scrub like mad, act like I didn't say anything. ;)

I've done this to a number of rifles but I've hever had a starting point as rough as the few 710s that I've handled.
