I have a GI model 45 with the fixed sights. Right now its shooting about 4 inches low at 25 yards using the Winchester white box ammo. Can anyone recommend a taller rear sight that would fit this? I would rather not file on the front as its already so low. Thanks for any suggestions.

You can always replace the rear with a Bo-mar adjustable target sight. BCMS unit.
Tried testing with different ammo from sandbags?

might try having some other experienced shooters shoot it and make sure it is the gun first. Just a thought.

What is your sight picture like?
Are you placing the front blade at 6 o'clock under the target,
or are you "covering" target?

Using a 6 o'clock hold. Have my others set up that way. Not 1911's, the GI is the only 1911 I have. If I put an adjustable on the rear I don't have to replace the front? Even covering target, it still shoots low. Like to have my handguns shoot to point of aim with the same hold so I don't have to remember where each one needs to be held. Right now the GI is the odd man out.
