I put a Williams on mine, it helps a TON. The stock SKS sights are second only to 98 Mauser sights........
I bought it from Brownells.

Reciever sights?
Here's a pic of the Williams peep on mine. It just replaces the original in the same location.

Now if you're talking about drilling and tapping the reciever for optics or sights, that can be done too.

You might also try <www.mojosights.com>. One of the guys in our club entered a three gun side match with a stock SKS and Chinese ammo. He didn't win but he impressed a lot of people.
Good Luck

I've been thinking about getting a peep sight for my SKS too. DMK, how do you like yours? The williams was the one I was thinking about.

Badger Arms- Had a Lyman mounted on a Norinco SKS. The receiver had to be drilled and tapped. The top part of site must be removed for cleaning, pretty easy to do, and then repalced. This can be done with out much change of impact, if any.
The front post sight must be elevated to center it in the rear peep. With the front round post cover also showing up in the rear peep sight, takes some getting used to as the front circle ends up being high in the rear peep sighting vision.
For me it seems to take away the advantage of rear peep site.

Thanks Zeke. I guess I'll pass on it then.
I've been thinking about getting a peep sight for my SKS too. DMK, how do you like yours? The williams was the one I was thinking about. I actually have both the Williams shown above and one of the Mojo sights on another SKS. I like shooting with the Williams better. It's more of a "peep" sight. The arpeture is slightly smaller and it has the larger ring around it.
The Mojo is more of a "Ghost" sight. It has a thinner ring and a larger arpeture. The one annoyance I have with it is the set screw that is used for elevation adjustment sticks up and blocks part of your vision. I need to replace it our cut it down. The Mojo made of steel and is built much stronger that the aluminum Williams though.
If I was using it on a "truck gun" or something that may get knocked around, I'd lean towards the Mojo. However, I think the Williams has more potential for better accuracy.
Either way they are both a major improvment over the original sight and give you the ability to adjust windage and elevation at the rear sight.
The Williams Firesight on the front is nice too, but it's fixed so you need to use it with an adjustable rear sight. Click Here (http://home.mchsi.com/~davidkoch/ebr/EBRSKS09.jpg) for a pic of it.

I have designed and am in the process of marketing a receiver mounted aperture sight for the SKS. It does not require drilling or tapping to mount and returns to zero after removal. It looks like about 8 weeks before the final product will be ready to ship. If anyone is interested you can contact me at law27@techie.com or TechSIGHTS@nesseth.com. I would be glad to send more information to you and keep you updated. The sight uses M16 rear sight apertures and increases the sighting radius 10" over sights that mount ahead of the receiver.

I have had a few e-mails asking about the new sight and if it was still going to be marketed. The answer is yes they are being manufactured even as I write this. Its' not that things are not happening, it's just that I don't want to turn the forum into an ad. My intent is to let those of you that have given feed back and followed the developement of the sight know where things are in the process. Let me say thank you for your input. Having designed the sight initially for my own SKS, I value the opinions of other users. The sights are in process and will be available in the later part of October. We are putting the finishing touches on a web site www.Tech-SIGHTS.com (It will not be on the web until the first part of October). I have posted pictures of the prototype, but not of the final design. Here is an jpg of the TS100 (the model designation for the sight) mouned on an SKS rifle. You can see that the sight will give the SKS that classic "GI" sight system that many of us prefer. The sight also blends well with the lines of the rifle.

If anyone wants more information they can e-mail me at law27@techie.com or post a reply.
Thanks again for the interest.

Well, I like that! Does it require any permanent modifications to the rifle?
Please do let us know when that's available. I'll bet a longer sight radius is a big improvement to the SKS.

It just makes a great package when you put that kind of a sight picture on the SKS. I got used to this style sight picture while in the Army. When we figured out how to put it on the SKS and built the prototypes we were impressed. Then after realising that others where looking for the same thing we decided to market it. One of the nice features is the ability to use M16 style apertures, this gives the shooter a pretty good selection of apertures to choose from. The aperture that will be standard has a slightly taller long range aperture (the second aperture) than the M16 variety. This will allow for the 7.62 x 39 trajectory that is not quite as flat as the 5.56. If the rifle is zeroed at 100 yards the long range aperture will put the trajectory back on at 200 yards. If the rifle is zeroed at 200 yards the second aperture will put it close at 300 yards. The price of the sight will be $45.00 plus a $5.00 shipping and handling charge. The web sight www.Tech-SIGHTS.com will be up in another 2 weeks and the ad for the TS100 (model designation) will be in Shotgun News starting November 1.

Fistfull-
We had hoped to be selling already but the delivery dates got backed up a bit. It always takes longer that you think, but we are getting close. It looks like the last week in October for the first units. We believe that feature for feature the TS100 sight will be be the best value in an aftermarket SKS sight

Have you ever considered offering these with a "Same Plane" arperture like the one from Ashley/XS Sight systems?
I assume that like BUIS sights for the AR, this is windage adjustable, but not elevation adjustable (other than by flipping the sight arperture), right?
BTW: I sent you an email with some more questions.

This sight could get me to buy a SKS. I haven’t acquired one until now because of the sights. I simply could not use them (curse old eyes).
LAW27 – I’ve bookmarked your website and eagerly await a review.
Also, are you working on an AK sight? (Hint)

Yours truly: DMK, no and it is apparently already available, read the previous posts on this thread.
Mea culpa, mea stupida!
As soon as I submitted my earlier post, I realized I shouldn't try to be a know-it-all, as I began to wonder - How does one remove the takedown pin? My Norinco's pin has a small button welded on to keep it in the receiver, so it seems I'd have to destroy that part to remove it. Doh! How does one remove that button without access to a machine shop?
When I came back to the thread, I realized it wasn't even the thread I thought it was! http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76693&highlight=SKS+AND+peep

fistful,
The small pin (button) that you are talking about is pressed into the latch pin on some SKSs and brazed in on others. I have a Yugo that seemed to have the pin brazed in, so I used a small grinder to remove the protusion of the pin enough so that the Latch Pin could be removed from the receiver. The pin could also be removed with a file. Tapco sells replacement pins in case one would ever want to replace the original.

Thanks, Larry,
I hope to get one of your sights as soon as I get a job wherewith to pay for it. Peep sights for all, I say!
