I am looking to buy a 12 gauge semi auto and this is my first one and I dont want to spend a fortune. What is the best bang for the buck.

Not too sure on the quality of the piece---but best bang for the buck I've seen lately----Legacy Sports Imports semi-auto.

This thing was a full camo combo 12ga---both barrels were camo-ed----a variety of choke tubes---various sights --chokes tubes wrenches and other goodies----all in a plastic hard case for $429.

I didn't take one home---but I sure did think it over---BIG TIME---and brought a Marine Magnum 870 home instead.

My auto shotguns are Beretta's---no quality issues there---BTW.

Best bang for the buck in semi-auto shotguns is the Winchester SuperX2 and the Beretta 390. Spend less and take what you get, spend more and get the same or less.

I have owned all of the common shotguns except the chinese and russian semi-auto shotguns.

Clay guns get scads of shells through them, durability is paramount.

The two biggies here are the ubiquitous 1100 and the 300 series Berettas. The newer Berettas may be the most durable, and the shims, etc, mean the stock can be easily tailored to fit most shotgunners. All that said, there's lots of 1100s out there well into their second 100K of shells.

I'd look for a used 1100 or a 390 Beretta.

I found a Rem. 870 express syn. for $229.00 and a 870 Wingmaster for $329.00. How do those prices sound. I know they are pumps but the prices sound really good. Used but in great shape.

Newer 870s are good shotguns, older ones oft are great ones. Those prices are a bit high, unless there's more to the story. IE, Expresses come with one barrel and one choke tube. Does this have more of either?

And WMs have been around for a long time, like 53 years. Lots of options and upgrades. Does this one have choke tubes, vent rib, a trap or skeet marked barrel or receiver, recoil pad, great wood, etc?

For a bare bones WM, it's a bit high.

Pumps have more felt recoil than gas guns. If this is not a problem, you'll wear yourself out trying to wear an 870 out, and have barrels of fun in the process.
