Thankfully no one was hurt and I found out, the cops near work are pretty quick in responding to calls. (within 2 minutes there were 10 squad cars on scene, go Alhambra PD!)

It was around 10:30 and I was at the cash register of the boba place where I work as night shift manager. I was talking with the coworkers about the last fight that happened outsidea few months ago when I glanced outside and happened to see 3 guys walk by with a not so happy look upon thier faces. So naturally, I keep my eye on them and check out what they're doing. (several fights/rumbles have been stopped primarily due to this habit of keeping an eye on people and calling police when needed)
Someone in the back called me about something, so I turn around for a few seconds and lose sight of said goblins. By the time I got back to the register I look outside and it seems the little goblins are trying to start a fight, they're talking smack and well, next thing you know, it looks like it's gonna be a very long night for me.

I immediately break conversation with aforementioned coworkers and swing open the bar's door and head towards outside. As this is happening goblin #1 pulls a compact sized semi and waves it at my customers (they come everynight) while goblin #2 and #3 are trying to beat on customer. No sooner than I shout at them to get the hell out of there do two fairly large customers step in between goblin #2 and 3 and prevent them from getting into a fight and goblin #1 signals for them to leave. Coworkers call the cops and I keep an eye on direction that goblins are going. Cops arrive pretty quick, take report and drive the neighborhood to see if they can't catch the little goblins. Half an hour later, everything is settled, and I get to go back to work.

In retrospect, I realized that yes, going out there and shouting at armed thug wannabe wasn't the smartest idea in the world and was in fact pretty freakin stupid. Second realization was that man, I've gotta get into another line of less dangerous work, i mean crap this happens all the time, just last week a car load of fools drive up yelling and throwing gang signs... Sadly I'm in Los Angeles county and well CCW is not possible, otherwise we would all carry at work (theres only 1 person over 21 there that doesn't own a firearm) and life would be less eventful hopefully.

Yes, a CCW may be out of the question. You're probably not a fine upstanding citizen like Sean Penn :).

What about a non-concealable coach-length shotgun under the counter? Would that be legal?

If the shotgun is legal, it may still be a good idea to get all employees through a CCW class, just for the value of the education. Or some other class if the local PD recommends one. Maybe keep someone there from making a dumb mistake.

Regards.

I found the contrast between the following two statements kinda interesting.

Sadly I'm in Los Angeles county and well CCW is not possible

goblin #1 pulls a compact sized semi and waves it at my customers

Pulled from where?

Yep ... CCW is not possible in Los Angeles County

In CA, you're allowed to allowed to carry (open or concealed) in your place of business without a permit. Maybe you can speak to the owner and get his permission.

Gun at a boba shop? That's how Twoblink and I became friends.

What day was this? I would have been up in your area-ish on Saturday night for boba but decided not to hang around.

Its those drinks in the clear plastic cups with those big black bobas in the bottom of the cup that you suck through a large straw....you usually see teenagers with them at the mall.

I think they are flavored tapiocas.

I'd say you need a less dangerous occupation in a more civilized part of the country.

Zundfolge - I shall explain in further detail that I mean getting a CCW permit to legally carry is a bit on the hard side here in LA county. Seems the only ones around here that are strapped probably wouldn't pass the instant back ground check if you get my drift...

Skunkabilly - Sunday night, around 10:30pm. The guys that work here are definitely gun folks :) Last week a coworker got a Sig and the other got a rifle... my friends keep telling me something about my ability to convert others...

moa - http://www.tapiocaexpress.ws and http://www.lollicup.com should explain :) Otherwise it's a fairly good tasting tea type drink with little starch balls at the bottom, tapioca. Boba is the slang for it... and has a rather interesting other meaning ;)

StandingWolf - seems like you and my best friend agree... Now all i've gotta do is get my butt into gear and search for jobs...

p.s. no incidents today :D

Technically, ONLY the business OWNER can CCW at the business - permission or otherwise.

are you sure on that one pendragon. I seem to recall walking into a lot of businesses where ALL the employees and actually a few "volunteers" were packing w/ the consent of the owner.

no ccw in LA and people wonder why the bad guys are in charge.

is that oxymoronic or just moronic, i ask ya?

:what:

too bad, you coulda turned them into dead thug wannabes, i was wondering why you didnt come out shootin'

Dan, I was up in your area but left around 9PM...friends (3 ladies, ok well 2 friends and an acquaintance) went to go get boba around that time

The customers that the punks pulled a gun on, do you know them?

too bad, you coulda turned them into dead thug wannabes, i was wondering why you didnt come out shootin'

As for going tactical for a stranger, if I didnt' know the customer, heck if I'm gonna put my butt on the line for what could be just a member of another gang!

Dan, if I don't do rifle on Sat, you ever been to an IPSC match?

280PLUS - happiness is a warm gun, but imagine the amount of happiness when the gun has 5-6 barrels :D

Skunkabilly - yeah I know the customers, but it's not even that, by the time I saw the gun I was more or less behind customer being assualted, meaning if shooting begins the guy might as well begin shooting at me... Never been to a IPSC match but apparently I shoot next to one of the best in California on occasion when I hit the range in Riverside...

Speaking of which, would it have been a justified shoot had the gun toting goblin just pulled out the gun and waved it around, or would I have had to have waited till he pointed at someone?

:D

DNA, youre right, you couldn't come out shooting

the correct thing was calling the cops, even if you were armed you would have been right to hold back, call the police and not expose your weapon but have a hand on it and prepared to use it only if absolutely necessary.

i just sometimes feel like if more of these types got themselves shot up for pulling that kind of stunt there would be less of them around to try it again...

eh?
