My local WallyWorld has a HR 20 ga Youth for $95. I'm tempted to pick it up after the glowing recommendation form our friend sm. If my memory serves I believe he said it was the modified barrel that shot so well.

Do the youth guns come in different chokes or are they all modified?

Hi bratch!

Now what did I do...again? :p

Here ya go: http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Shotguns/topper.aspx
Topper Junior
Stock # 20 Gauge (SB1-258)
This is the one I have and lots of folks have gone to this Youth Model.
I kid you not, that fixed Modified barrel, tosses some of the best pellet and slugs groups! Because mine did, others bought the exact same gun, same results. Then others bought because of results. Back door gun, vehicle gun, tractor gun, and this thing is "just a bone stock youth single shot shotgun".

Total length is only 36", and has choke - not a whacked off open bore gun.

Get it, then get some 20 ga Fiocchi Target loads in #8 , pattern it. Then get some Slugs, these are a real hoot! Fun to tote, but they work!

Mine does not have a sling...I take a pc of 550 or whatever and slip knot...

I'd do a sling on one, just a light nylon jobbie , I have Koplin Elastic Butt cuff on mine, electrical tape secures. I run thru first and last sheel "loop" , then ends.

Next up I need you try a 28 ga....:evil grin:

bratch,
250 is the one I wanted, just wrong one came in and I kept it.
Get it!

250, 850, and 450 are the ones I want/prefer. 20, 28, and .410 respectfully , Youth size, wood with blue, straight stock.

Mine has the pistol grip, and some folks prefer this, and some like the black with white metal receiver. Mine also came with a recoil pad. I cannot tell if yours does...

The youth size is fine for an adult, I have used it for doves and critter control. If a petite lady , or teenager, or even kid needs to use it, they can. Teaching tool as well.

Like I said I prefer features of the 250, 850, and 450.

Take it apart, clean it, Apply Johnson's Paste wax to all wood, inside and out, including stock bolt hole, sealing the wood, where attached to receiver and buttplate/ recoil pad.

RIG grease for stock bolt, and hinge.

Now Johnson's Paste Wax for all metal , before forearm put back on, then Johson's Paste Wax the gun. Preserves metal and wood.

Internally, I use Ballistol, action and bore.

One trick, not that one ever really needs to on these ...
Replace the Phillips screw for forearm with regular flat head, idea being if for some odd reason, a flat blade on a SAK, or Camping Knife, even a dime will undo screw. Not such a big deal now-a-days as SAK have a phillips screw feature - old days -knives did not. So we often replaced screws with flat head.

These are addictive, the 20 is most versatile, more ammo choices, avail anywhere, and prices are affordable.
Then again I know what a 28 ga will do, and I like to tote a .410 version.

Did I mention these are addictive?

I actually went to buy the sucker around 9:30 and was told they quit doing sales at 9:15.

If NICS is online tomorrow it will be mine.

I already have a .410. Was the first gun I paid for myself and didn't acquire in a horse trade (actually traded a horse for a small gun collection... long story). I don't remember if the .410 is straight or pistol its at my parents at the time being. It does have (I'm not sure on the correct term) oil like finish on the receiver. I always enjoyed shooting that one.
