Not too long ago I taught girl's daughter, Critter (http://crankylabs.com/gallery/madrange/L9L6338), how to shoot. :-)

Well... last night we built up a pair of stripped AR lowers. Nothing like teaching a young'in how to shoot, then walking her through putting the rifle together from parts. I think I'll try to hold off and let her put the first rounds throguh it next time we get to the range. That idea put a smile on her face, so I'll have to be patient and let her have the pride and thrill of testing her build.

Critter gets the mechanicals into the lower (http://crankylabs.com/albums/madrange/LL9L8374.sized.jpg).
Critter wonders why it's so limp (http://crankylabs.com/albums/madrange/LL9L8375.sized.jpg)...
Critter shows off the finished product (http://crankylabs.com/albums/madrange/LL9L8378.sized.jpg). (too bad - didn't have the right size key to mount the EOTech or blocks to spin off the flash hider for an AAC (http://advanced-armament.com/) quick attach M4-2000 (http://advanced-armament.com/products/rifles/m42k.asp) flash hider)

Very cool! There's nothing like having a good time shooting a gun that you put together yourself. ARs are really fun to assemble and great rifles to learn marksmanship with.

Cute kid. She reminds me of my neice. I think it's this expression (http://crankylabs.com/albums/madrange/LL9L8374.sized.jpg). :p

Way to go for coaching a young shooter! :)

You know... I may just have to put black furniture on that one and put the .22 upper she liked so much on it. I have plans to build a pink 10/22 for either Christmas or her birthday, but who knows... might have to consider stepping her up to an AR right off.

+1. I have done two AR lowers and a FAL parts kit build. I haven't yet had the pleasure of taking them ti the range but I can still say that I know the joy of assembling my own firearm.
