Now, I know that the revo is for 10mm. It says so on the website and in all of the internet sales places. But, a fella at IDPA yesterday told me that they would also shoot .40 S&W.

Is that true? If so, I would love to get one as an IDPA Stock Service Revolver, as the .40 would have less 'umph' than the 10mm. In other words, less recoil, and better follow-up shots.

I don't know anything about moon-clip wheelguns, and I am interested in them (the 625 in .45acp as well) for speed over a regular speed-loader fed gun. As I am slow (moderately accurate, but slow), so I need all the help I can get in a timed sport.

Yes, the 610 will shoot .40S&W but you need to use the moonclips. The 610 will shoot the 10mm and .40S&W from moonclips and it will also shoot 10mms without the clips.

S&W also made a stricly .40 S&W revolver that was an L-Frame I think. It was a Performance Center, model 646 I believe. I heard of a lot of function problems with those though.

The 610 is a grat revolver. I have two of them, a CH and the 1st run 5" one. Both are tack drivers

The 610 is a great revolver, I have a 4in model. It is very accurate and even with the 10's the recoil is light. If you shoot the 10mm ammo without the clips the cases can be alittle hard to extract but it will fire. The 40's dont tend to be as accurate but that could just be me.

I gotta tell ya, I'm starting to like the idea of buying a 610. There's just one problem...

I'm a cheap skate.

I mean, yeah, I bought a new S&W1911 for $749.00 plus DROS and taxes, but I already have a (rare) S&W 64-1 .357 wheelgun. I see all wheelguns as pretty much the same, but semi-autos have a lot more to differentiate them from one another. I realize that this is the revolver portion of the forums, and I mean no disrespect. I learned to shoot with a S&W revolver, and I really don't see myself ever owning any revolver BUT a S&W.

At any rate, prices have been a little more than I've wanted to pay:

Guns America had a 610 with a 4" barrel (IDPA limit) for $570.00

Auction Arms had one for $648.00

Gunbroker had one for $575.00

I've looked for a used one and heven't had much success. I've found a few used 625s (the .45acp version) for under $500, but I'd like to try for the same price with a 610 if possible.

Like I said, I'm a cheap skate.

Problem with the 610 is that those that own them like them and don't want to part with them for cheap :)

Try RSR, I think they are $545 NIB. I will have to check when I get back to Texas.

RSR is a distributer, I dont think the general public can buy from them. I think you have to have a FFL to purchase from RSR.
I could be wrong but we have RSR here in Reno and they only sell to dealers.

Yes, RSR is one of, if not THE largest distributor of firearms in the U.S. They have 3 or 4 warehouses around the country and prior to the boycott they accounted for the sales of 1/3rd of all S&W production. They do only sell to FFL holders, but you have to ship to an FFL for any gun you buy out of state anyway, so why not ship it from RSR? I don't tend to order from them much since they have a warehouse in Grand Prairie, just like CDNN in Abilene, and I have to pay 8.25% sales tax.
