And wouldn't you know it I got one.
What I got was a used one of these (from Springfield's web site)

A friend was selling it so I decided to jump on it. It is lightly used with maybe 200 rds through it. I paid $600. Perhaps not the deal of the century but it seemed reasonable. Especially since I knew where it came from so to speak.
It is just like the picture with all the bells and whistles including the adjustable night sights. The only change I made was removing the 2-piece guild rod for the standard GI setup. Two-piece guide rods are a no-no in my book.
The grip panels are thinner than standard. It felt kind of weird at first but I really like them now. Especially after shooting it.
So, I finally got to the range yesterday and ran some rounds through it. All I can say is WOW! After adjusting the sight 2 clicks to the right I was dead square on the X-ring at 20 ft. I moved out to 50 ft and still managed to easily get hits on the x-ring (although not as often of course). Ammo was 150 rds of WWB and 20 rds of 230 gr Gold Dots. Both brands of ammo hit at the same place. Which is a good thing since that is what I stocked up on.
It went bang every time. No stoppages of any kind.
This thing shoots circles around my Kimber. I have owned the Kimber since '01 and never shot it as consistently as this Springfield. And I never thought the Kimber to be a bad shooter by any means. I have to say I am impressed. It looks like the Springfield just became my new favorite 45.
