I wanted another 1911.......

And wouldn't you know it I got one.

What I got was a used one of these (from Springfield's web site)
http://i3.tinypic.com/11a8jlv.jpg

A friend was selling it so I decided to jump on it. It is lightly used with maybe 200 rds through it. I paid $600. Perhaps not the deal of the century but it seemed reasonable. Especially since I knew where it came from so to speak.

It is just like the picture with all the bells and whistles including the adjustable night sights. The only change I made was removing the 2-piece guild rod for the standard GI setup. Two-piece guide rods are a no-no in my book.

The grip panels are thinner than standard. It felt kind of weird at first but I really like them now. Especially after shooting it.

So, I finally got to the range yesterday and ran some rounds through it. All I can say is WOW! After adjusting the sight 2 clicks to the right I was dead square on the X-ring at 20 ft. I moved out to 50 ft and still managed to easily get hits on the x-ring (although not as often of course). Ammo was 150 rds of WWB and 20 rds of 230 gr Gold Dots. Both brands of ammo hit at the same place. Which is a good thing since that is what I stocked up on.

It went bang every time. No stoppages of any kind.

This thing shoots circles around my Kimber. I have owned the Kimber since '01 and never shot it as consistently as this Springfield. And I never thought the Kimber to be a bad shooter by any means. I have to say I am impressed. It looks like the Springfield just became my new favorite 45.

Sounds like a darn good deal, especially with the night sights.

I took mine out to the range again today and ran a couple hundred through it. I've made some changes to mine. It's shooting real good. Enjoy

Pretty close. I've been following that model for a while now, and you got a sweet deal, if it's in good shape. Nice! :D

You got a smokin' deal. That gun goes for about $900, NIB.

That's definitely a sweet 1911. All the bells and whistles many want for the most part, and none of the unnecessary stuff.

Great buy! :)

Thanks everyone

I figured it was priced to sell but I was not sure what retail for a new one was. I had guessed around $900 (he did not tell me what he paid for it). I figured the price was good so there was no need to haggle over it (he told me what he wanted and it was done).

The pistol is in all but new condition. It did come with the standard "idiot mark" at the slide release/takedown pin. But hey, we all been there, done that. Also, the black finish has started to come off at the edges of the trigger guard. It does not show the stainless as there seems to be a grey undercoating. Not enough to bother me (yet) and as a bonus I do not need to cry if I end up scratching it.

I was not looking for anything quite as flashy had I bought new. I was really looking at the Springfield parkerized loaded model. But when opportunity knocks.....well, you know.

All the bells and whistles many want for the most part, and none of the unnecessary stuff.

I have to agree. It is definitely ready to go out of the box. Except for the two-piece guide rod. I cannot for the life of me understand why Springfield uses two-piece guide rods. My Kimber has a one-piece so I never bothered with it since I knew it was not going to fall out of the gun. However, I have personally seen two-piece guide rods back out of guns. But since I had the parts on hand, it got replaced with the standard setup.

It is nice to be on this side of a deal for a change. :D
