I just put a brand new Browning 1895 on layaway this weekend. Has anybody done any shooting with these yet? I'm still tossing the idea of having it refinished and restocked to resemble the origninals in fit and finish. The only problem I'll have is the grip safety that the originals never had. I doubt anybody will willingly remove it even though the rifle already has two other safety's, another example of over engineering for sure.

I have looked hard at those, also. There was one at one point in my family that my Dad fired many years ago, but no one seems to know what became of it. I've always wanted one for that reason.
The tang safety at least is easy to use - some of the ones they put on lever guns are really awkward.
The '95 used receiver sights that mounted on the side, so at least you don't have a tang sight problem to worry about.
The .405 was for many years the most powerful lever action rifle you could get from the factory. The modern .45-70 loads will match it out of Marlins or the Browning '86 replicas, but they can't do it with pointed bullets!
