That's right........worthless. As you might have seen in the "Should I sell my Glock 21" poll,I made a comment about my having taken in my 2nd generation Glock 21 to put on consignment at a local gun shop that was new to me.The guy looked at it for about 8 seconds and said "We can't sell this,nobody wants these old frame Glocks...you can't give em away".:confused: I'm sure the newer frame models are more desireable,but to say the old ones are worthless and refuse to even take one on consignment is news to me.Except for some minor holster wear (it was a police trade when I got it) near the muzzle this gun is in great shape.I'll take it to the "old shop" I've sold at before even though it's 100 miles away and everything will be cool.By the way,this same store that refused my Glock had all kinds of overpriced crap in the case......I'll never understand some gun shops.:banghead:

I will just have to keep my "worthless" 2nd gen. G17 and continue to enjoy it.

I've met guys at some gun shops that have no business working their :rolleyes: ...and with some, a little information can be very dangerous! IF you're really intent on selling that 2nd gen Glock, there are markets for it & you shouldn't have much problem selling it ;)

My G21 is what they refer to as generation 2.5

That is finger grooves, but no acces. rail. Does that mean mine is only 1/2 worthless?

There is a reason why most people work in gun shops:

1) Having at least a passing interest in firearms
2) Having absolutely nothing more productive to do with their time

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of money in retail and it is even worse in firearms because of the relatively low volume of sales. With the wages that gun shops can pay, it is understandable that they will attract people on the lower end of the socio-economic scale that do not have the greatest customer service skills.

I'm not trying to justify your treatment. I'm just trying to explain it.

I wish I'd have known that old model Glocks were worthless before I paid $399 for my used gen 2 Glock 21. Maybe I can salvage something out of the deal by selling the 7 magazines I have for it and just use the pistol for a paper weight.

When I was shopping for my CCW Glock I found two that interested me. One was a 3rd gen 19 for $399. The other was a 2nd gen 23 with night sites for $350. I ended up with the 23. It may be worthless, but it will still poke .40 caliber holes in Badguys.

Wow, my 2nd Gen 24P I bought new when I turned 21 must really be worthless then, since it's also "ported" instead of "comped" like the newer models. ;)

I never could warm up to the finger grooves or the thumb rest. Turned a gun that fit me well into one that was uncomfortable and akward to hold. Probably one of the reasons I never bought another Glock. She's treated me well for the 8k or so rounds I've put through her in the last 11 years though.

A gun (as with anything) is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Not what a book says it's worth, not what a dealer says it's worth, but what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

Perhaps this dealer was trying to lowball the value of your Glock in hopes of making a quick commission. Or, perhaps he was merely giving an honest appraisal of the "salability" of your gun based on his experience of the demand he sees at his shop.

Myself, if I was in the market for a used Glock, I would not pay as much for a 2nd gen as I would for a 3rd gen. That's my preference. Others prefer the 2nd gen Glock, and would be willing to pay a reasonable price for it.

It's all a matter of hooking up with the right buyer.

Heck, I just bought a 2nd Gen G19! I wanted it because I was not real happy with the 3rd Gen G19 finger grooves (until I had them removed). At any rate, the 2nd Gen is what I was really looking for to go with my 1st Gen G17. Man, I am totally upset that I now own a couple of worthless pistols!:banghead:

I'm not going to lie: when I was shopping for a Glock, a gen 2 would have been a deal-breaker, but that was because I specifically wanted to mount lights. I think a light is a pretty important accessory for a home defense/open carry handgun. However, I think it is pretty ridiculous to say they are worthless. The market is pretty well flooded with police guns, though, so you are going to get a lower price for it. Oh well. Just wait for the Gen 4 and all my third gen guns will be worthless.

Most of my Glocks are older in fact when I went out to Front Sight http://www.frontsight.com/ in 2000 everyone was surprised I had not sent my first generation circa 1986 or 87(memory slips to the exact date. I know I had them when I got married in 87 though) Glock 17s back for updating. Like Chuck Taylor I am shooting them to death. I will admit they both developed a small problem so I popped the top off one and slapped it on the lower of the other. Shot the rest of the four day course with FrankenGlock. So far all I have had to do is replace recoil springs and extractor and trigger spring. They are not pretty with all that use, but still work well. Not bad after nearly 20 years of blasting away with them.;)

The finger grooves are terrible unless you are the guy whose hands were the model to make the mold. Sorry, new ones don't fit my hands and I prefer the "worthless" ones.

I have one 2nd Gen. Glock, a G17. Have several 3rd gen Glocks; finger grooves are fine for me. Won't ever attach a light to the rail of any of my Glocks. Rails are great for scope-mounting, though. :)

Finger grooves work perfectly for me too. My wife may have the finger grooves removed from her Glock 27 though, because without the finger extension she can get her entire hand on the grip...

Well,today I finally got my Glock to where it needs to be.The shop I normally use took it without question and didnt balk at the $395.00 price tag I placed on it.They sell new gen 3 21's for $560.00 so Im OK there,but may have issues getting it sold quickly because they also have the new XD .45acp kit for $449.99
Im quite sure that many buyers will pass on my 21 in favor of the XD...I know I would.:uhoh:

And I forgot to add that there was a gen 2 Glock 17 there for $399.99 that except for its having three mags and mine having two and mine having an adjustable rear site,the two guns were pretty much the same so I think Im priced fair.

I've owned a First Gen. G21 for over 9 yrs. I use Houge rubber wrap-arounds which give me the finger grooves I need, with added grip and comfort, and I have no use for the light rails......So I'm not really missing out on anything. But if anyone insists on buying a new Glock just because it's 3rd generation, you might just wan't to replace your frame. One interesting site is www.ccfraceframes.com, they make Glock replacement frames out of alloy, aluminum, stainless steel, or titanium. Whats cool about these replacement frames is that they come with adjustable back straps. Check them out.
