I have not read about this before, and I bought an 870 so I wouldn't have problems like this. Ok I was shooting some clays with a friend and I missed on my first shot. I went to pump it and the slide gets stuck. This happened again two more times also. The only movement I get out of it is when it moves back slightly on its own. It don't go forward or back.

Can anyone tell what to do? It usually works great.

In my prior life, I did system adminstration and some technical support. A great number of problems were cured by having folks reboot their PCs.

In a similar vein, have you tried disassembly and cleaning? That's usually the first place I start. When you've got it apart, pay particular attention to the action bars, and even the little slide-release button on the forward portion of the trigger-guard. See if anything is bent or binding.

I'm sure Dave will be along shortly to sort this out. Good luck!

First assuming this is a new gun..........
The problem you describe seems to be fairly in new expresses.
The bad news, its annoying as heck
The good news, if its what I assume it is it will smooth up and you won't notice it anymore. Put a few cases of shells through and see if it doesn't go away.
Cleaning and polishing should help too, although I wouldn't polish anything unless you have a fair idea of what your doin.

Place one drop of oil or CLP on each action bar right in front of the receiver and cycle the action a couple of times. After freeing up the action read the floating thread about breaking in new pumps.Follow that and you should see improvement.

New Expresses especially and all new pumps should have the grease removed BEFORE firing. Otherwise, you get what you got.

If there's still probs, let me know and I'll see if I can fix this LD.

On a matter of being new I have had it 2 years now but it only has about 300 to 450 rounds through it. I didn't have the problem for the first 200 rounds or so. It happened once but hadn't happened again until this passed weekend. I will try the clp tonight. Thanks everybody.

Thought this one over, and something came back from the long lost days of yore. Break it down, make sure the carrier plate under the bolt is in both action bars properly and reassemble. Then CLP it and try pumping.
