a local pawn shop has an interesting G91, looks like it's hardly
been shot for 1899$
THE SERIAL NUMBER IS GOO5046
(oop's cap lock)
I think it's a good buy but I'm not sure, can anyone tell me how old it is from the serial #?
It looks like it's been passed around without ever being shot, it's green and I thought they were grey...I've been wanting a good 308, would you pass untill
a PTR1 came along??

You answered your own question. :)
HK, $1900
PTR, say $1000; and you also get to buy mags and a couple cases of ammo.
If you like the 91 platform. The PTR is an excellent rifle.

Are there a couple of letters between the nitro proof and the proof house stamps like below?('KA')

This is the date of manufacture code.

The 'KA' meaning 1990.
Personally, I always like to get a sample of the original. (And I've never seen an actual 100% CETME.) That price is, IMO, very good for an actual HK91. I would jump on it. Not that the PTR is a bad gun. It is also very good and in some ways, a little better (I really like the heavy barrel). But, the HK is an HK. They won't be making those 91s anymore.

H&K 91's are becoming more of a collector rifle anymore. The clones (CETME, G3 from Century arms, PTr 91, etc.) are pretty much the same and can use HK parts. If you want a collector buy it. If you want to shoot a lot, don't. Also be carefull of what you buy at pawn shops. It seems like a good price, though.

A green finish may indicate a refinish job. Whatever the reason, check the internals, especially the bolt carrier. That will tell you the true condition of the rifle.
