Mossberg makes their pump gun in .410 - I think that's about as inexpensive a repeater as you'll find. You can find small gauge 870 and 1100 Remingtons for not too much more. But, IMO, far and away the most desireable .410 repeater is the Winchester Model 42. Pre-64s generally bring close on $1k in almost any condition. But you can find Browning repros for alot less.

Ammo for .410 and 28 ga is alot more expensive than their ubiquitous bigger siblings, the 12 and 20 ga. If you can buy factory Rem/Fed/Win 2.5" target shells for around $6/box you're doing very well. Sometimes you see PMCs for around $5/box. This is why most everyone reloads for the 28 and .410. In view of the 1/2 oz payload I can reload for well under $2/box of 25. 3" shells run higher, but carry 11/16 oz (usually) of shot. 3" shells are preferable for hunting purposes.

i've got a winchester model 9410 for sale. it's spendy for a .410, but it's probably the best .410 available. a real quality gun. $600 + shipping.

My dad had an old one and we shot it a few times but it was no big deal.

I really don't see a use for it other than placing it in the "neat to have" catagory.

Ammo is more of a pain to find, can be spendy, and many other shotguns are more fun/usefull.

But if you want one, don't let anyone talk you out of it. Fun guns are jsut that, f u n g u n s.

Just my opi.

I had never hunted with one, but last season took a mod choked '42 to NY. I shot 10 preserve phez with 13 shots using 3" #7.5s. I was careful not to shoot beyond 25 yds. Had to fire twice at one bird, and missed a rooster twice due to a brain fart. No lost cripples, and the dogs did not need to chase any runners.

I think they're effectiveness is underrated, assuming you can live with a 25 yd range limitation.

I use a Full Choke 870 with Winchester 3" 6 Shot loads. It works wonders on squirrels.
