Texas friend carries shotgun in duffel bag

I recently got in contact with one of my old high school buddies and we got on the subject of guns and CHL. He told me he wasnt eligible to get a CHL because he had a Class B a few years ago or something, but he said he carries around a duffel bag with a 12ga pump pistol grip where ever he goes. I guess technically its legal, but I kind of starting laughing when he told me that. Hadnt heard that one before. Said he even takes it with him when he goes jogging. Must be funny to see. Has anyone else ever heard of something like that? I admit, it is pretty creative.....

Jogging?
He must jog through a REALLY bad neighborhood, to go through that hassle!
You know, little pepper/tear gas canisters are a lot more convenient if you really think you'll be attacked, though not quite as effective as a few rounds of buckshot, I guess.

He said he goes on walks with his wife and its for her protection too. I guess technically, 1. It IS a long gun, 2. He isnt causing a public disturbance (duffel bag). I'm kind of supprised I didnt think of it first.

IIRC, 2 alcohol related offensives (PI and such) in a 10 year period or 1 DWI will delay a
CHL for 5 years.

Oh, my instructor said it was ANY Class B misdemeaner. Is that not the case? Texas btw.

When I looked a few days ago at general firearms laws in Texas, CHL's were permanently lost for felonies (along with right to possess firearms), and could be suspended for 5 yrs for class A misdemeanors. There was no mention of Class B's.
I could have been misreading though.

It is, the related offensives seem to be the most common.
Thats why I asked.

Dunno...but I didn't want my neighbours see me walking out to my truck with my Ak slung over my shoulder (and thought a gun case would still be too obvious).
So I went to Wal-Mart and bought a folding chair for $15. But not for the chair - its bag! The nylon bag comes with a shoulder strap that has a sticker on it with a diagram of the chair.
Not sure how well it would actually transport the chair to ...say...the beach. But it does allow carry of my WASR10 in a convenient and discreet fashion.
One of the nice things about how the AK-47 is how compact it is!

Back up a sec. Carrying a shotgun in a duffle bag is not concealed? Or does the concealed carry only apply to handguns?

Looks like I read it wrong... thanks for posting corrections. I was reading a summary, not the actual codes.

Quite common - even traditional - in europe for example to have a shot of one thing or another, or bring some wine along. It is people that can not control themselves and their bottles that are the problem. The same can be said for driving, or any other acitvity for that matter.

In texas you can always carry a long gun. Concealed or not. But if its not concealed, and some hippy has a hissyfit and calls the police, if you were causing public distress, you can be given a citation. However, I have usually found that unless you are actually "brandishing" the weapon, IE ready to fire carry, or pointing it at someone, you dont have anything to worry about.

I just see me walking around the Drag in downtown Austin with my M4gery.
Or maybe the Sharps would go better with these shoes?

Yeah, I may start doing the same. Maybe he was on to something. I have a 30" Gold's Gym bag and I may start carrying everywhere. Put a towel and some workout clothes in there with it, and no one will suspect my 26" Mossy 500 is inside. I just "work out alot". My co-workers will be none the wiser. Ok, I'm going to go work out now so my story is a little more believable.

Man, I wish I could do that here in MD, I'd love to sling my Benelli M3S90 or my SOCOM II over the shoulder for "walks on the town" just to p**s off the local libs.
But that would go over like a fart in church here...not to mention illegal...bummer.

Actually the "concealed" part is only part of the equation if you are are carrying a pistol with a licence.
If you are carrying a pistol for any other legal reason (say on your way to the range, traveling, engaging in sporting activity) it doesn't matter whether it's concealed or not (legally, practically may be a different matter). Longarms aren't restricted regarding carry at all, except for felons, brandishing, etc.

You can prove someones got/had a drink sooner than you can prove their an idiot.
They two are generally unrelated, but mission creep makes for "efficient" police work.
