Bowen Classic Arms is doing New Vaqs in .50 GI...Click on this here hyper-klink (http://www.bowenclassicarms.com/WhatsNew.html) to read on it.

Gun rags are good for something...I would not have known save for an article on Ruger SAs in the June G & A.

some extra search terms in case people are looking for .50 short, guncrafter industries, or New Vaquero conversions

Forgot to add that a GI Model 1 or 2 plus this Bowen conversion would be a great matched pair.

Just need someone to do a DA revolver and a lever action rifle and that would be a sweet suite of guns.

The .50GI, assuming the round catches on and more JHPs are made for it, will surpass the .45ACP in effectiveness. I'd like to see this caliber catch on.

The frontal surface area of a 45ACP FMJ is 0.160 in^2, while the frontal area of a FMJ 50GI is 0.196 in^2 - making a hole 23 percent larger than the .45ACP.

I'm thinking about it.

I would love to see the 8 year old Croatian gun masters do a XD in .50 GI with a slim grip like on the new XD45. You might be able to get 10-12 rounds in there and that would be a good thing.

I love the .50GI concept, now if only we could get doublestack Paras and semiauto Thompsons chambered for it, AND if it weren't $3K+ for one darn gun...

Just had a thought, how is it that the rounds don't fall to far forward?

Those .50s have a rim the same size as the .45 ACP so the rims are inside the chamber and the gun being an SA no moon clip can be used. So what is it that keeps the rounds stable in there?

Maybe they have a permanent moon clip built into the rear of the cylinder. It couldn't hold the rounds too tight or the ejection rod would not be able to push the empties out.

Does the front of the chamber narrow down just a bit?

I'll call BCA tomorrow if I don't get an answer here by then.

Probably just headspace on the case mouth, though I don't know for sure.

Yes, they headspace on the case mouth like pretty much every center-fire self-loading handgun I know. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I can't think of any.

Great... another gun in the super-cool cartridge that I really want... but it still costs as much as a decent used car... :cuss: I want one, but not that bad.

Maybe Bond Arms will make a barrel for it. The 50GI would be a dandy derringer round!:what:
