How do u guys clean?

I've always used non chlorinated brake parts cleaner. It gets everything out, re-oil...good to go. It gets all the hard to reach places.

Well, now I have a gun where the brake parts cleaner could potentially ruin the polycoat finish. Now what? I'm so spoiled by blasting away all the gunk I'm not real sure what's an effective way of cleaning.

Hoppes, patches, q-tips, and go at it?

I use Shooter's choice first.W/ patches,a bronze bore brush if I've shot a lot.Then I use Break Free to lube and protect.I only shoot jacketed,and actually mostly WinClean so I don't really have a lot of cleaning.
Sometimes(once a year) I use Gun Scrubber and degrease and reoil.
Some guys only clean once every 6 months!The most I can go is 2 weeks(like every other time I shoot).Usually I clean after every outing.:cool:

My cleaning kit has evolved over the years. Now, I use primarily MPro7, Bullfrog Rusthunter, bore snake, q-tips, Militec & rags.

I use Breakfree/CLP, a double ended nylon brush, a bronze bore brush, a Bore Snake and some patches and Q-Tips.

I'm still content with Hoppe's No. 9, bristle brushes, Nylon brushes, patches, more patches, lots more patches, an old tooth brush for nooks and crannies, and lots of cotton swabs. I keep thinking I'll treat myself to an ultra-sonic cleaner, but I keep putting it off.

oh you had to ask !!! they ussually cleaned the night they are used by an assortment of cleaning compounds like tetra , break free , hoppes , rags, leadfree cloths , q tips , I am very anal when it comes down to cleaning my guns , I like them to look new .

I use Breakfree, nylon bore brush, patches, and Q-Tips (Toss in a silicone gun rag if cleaning blued carbon steel).

Hoppes #9 down barrel, swab chamber, ramp, etc.

breakfreeclp down barrel, lightly coat all metal parts

maybe a couple drops of Rem Oil on slide and rails, depending on the gun.

I'll run a copper brush down the barrel every 3 or 4 cleanings as well.

Just put your Pistol in the dish washer and oil when its done! :D

MPro7 for the bore. Breakfree CLP for everything else. And a lead away cloth for the Stainless Steel guns. Bore snake, patches, brush. And lots of time since I like them to look like new! :neener:

You left out the "Bake at 250 degrees for two hours or until dry" prior to re-oiling.

once a year, i detail strip and clean my guns, throughly.
during the detail strip, i examine every part for anything amiss.

solvent wise, i use hoppes number 9.

to lube i use FP-10.

"How do you guys clean"I don't. Is that bad? Everyone tells me it is, but my USP doesn't seem to mind, actually. I, literally, can't remember the last time I cleaned that gun.

I use Firepower FP-10 CLP for everything. Does a superb job.

If you have copper fouling, use some Butch's Bore Shine, Sweets, etc along with the FP-10.

I use the Otis kit and Boresnakes as well.


Used to use Mpro7 (good but lots of work) and Breakfree CLP, but just found Firepower FP-10 as a better CLP than breakfree (thicker, cleaned better IMO)

Double ended nylon brushs, pipe cleaners, long wooden Q-tips, Otis pull through, uncoated steel rod, went back to quality bronze brushes, jags,solvent, oil, penlight.

Depends on platform, caliber, weather/climate. Don't use fp-10 for anything.

Last cleaning I did was range guns, personal CCW more focus on chamber/extracter/external for humidity right now. 200 rds through each CCW the other day, figure in another 2-300 rds I'll think about it-maybe. Inspected weekly/ after shooting.

Hoppes #9, patches, bronze brush, toothbrush, lead-away "cheese-cloth", Gun-Scrubber & then one tiny drop of Outer's Oil into the action of my revolvers. Then I dry-fire until any excess oil runs out. I recently bought a silicone cloth and I may start rubbing them a bit with that at the end.

For light cleaning: WD40 for barrel and let soak for 3-5 minutes. Then use bore brush. Finally for barrel run patches through until clean then lightly oil with CLP.

For slide and frame, wet brush with WD40 and brush to your heart's content. Wipe down with dry rag then oil patch with CLP and wipe down frame and slide. Relube rails and other moving parts and reassemble. Function check and wipe off any excessive oil.

For heavy cleaning soak disassembled gun in kerosene or mineral spirits then blow out with air gun. Ensure frame is held upside down when using the air gun. A nitro solvent is used for the barrel.
