Question about a barrel...

I picked up a well used 870 Express recently and am almost finished cleaning it up (thanks Lee!). I want to get a shorter barrel with rifle sights for it and was wondering if anyone made one already cut for Remchokes? I prefer the "matte" finish of the Express line so it matches nicely.

I see Remington shows a 20" smooth bore IC with rifle sights which is probably what I will get if I can't find one that accepts Remchokes.

Thanks!

hmm i donno its kind of a wierd combo. as the rifle sites are more for slugs, and chokes are for shot. i donno if the company sees a need to offer chocked barrels with rifle sites

Found one! It is labeled as a "Special Purpose" barrel.

I wanted chokes so I can use it for turkey hunting.

Congratulations on the 'new' acquisition- I hope it serves you well. Yes, Remington makes/made RemChoked 20" rifle sighted barrels- I have one in bright blue that was made for a Wingmaster, and I saw one of the SP barrels listed for sale on eBay the other day. They work quite well in my experience, I have had a good bit of experience with 18- 20" barrels fitted with aftermarket RemChokes and like them a lot. It should work well for turkeys with whatever load and choke combination works best.

Good luck on the big birds,

I've one too on the 870 I use for deer hunting and HD backup. Works fine.

Best slug goes into about 4" at 100 yards with a rifled tube in place.

I just ordered one. I went ahead and picked up some new furniture too. I REALLY like Hogue stocks and haven't tried the shotgun stocks out yet so I am on this one. I had to sell some other things I had laying around to fund this purchase but I know it will be worth it.

Dave I plan to use this gun as a HD/Truck gun and for Whitetail if the urge ever hits me. 4" at 100 yards is good (believable) accuracy for this setup. I guarantee the deer won't know the difference with an ounce of lead passin' thru 'em! :D

100 yards is about three times my average shot,Sulaco. The setup you're putting together sounds good to me.

Do test some different slugs. No 12 gauge slug is ineffective, so no worrries there.

Typically, a center shoulder broadside shot with a full bore slug (Rather than a sabot) means an easy to follow blood trail less than 75 yards long. Often you can hear or see them drop.

Good luck....
