What are you going to do before there is a total gun ban?

June 11, 2006, 04:24 PM
As for me, this is what I've been working on since 9:00 am, except for a break to plant some some stuff and the time spent posting here.

I personally mailed a survey on gun rights stance to each person on that list. Someone else (also a member here) is researching the voting records of each person. A group of people have scored the surveys using an objective scoreb sheet.

We're trying to get pro-gun candidates elected so we never have to worry about storming the gates.

This is the way we win. Not by letting it get to the point where everything is banned. The NRA and every other gun group thrived during the Clinton years as people joined up to fight the evil-gun-nabbers. But now that there's not so much of a threat? No one is interested, even though if the momentum of the Clinton era had been maintained, we could have eliminated nearly all the Unconstitutional BS out there. It's not nearly as fun or macho to go knock on doors to hand out campaign literature or donate the cost of a box of ammo to a pro-gun candidate, but its a hell of a lot more effective than beating our collective chests.

We stand to lose big in the next election. Don't wait until then to get moving on this. We have 6 months to work on it and it's going to take a huge effort to keep pro-gun politicians in place.

(I know a lot of people here do work hard on this. I'm also reasonably sure a lot of people here don't. Think about which group you're in.)

Good for you!

I personally think we lose in every election, on a federal level anyway.
I personally support local candidates{Sheriff, County Commissioners, Constables, etc.} That support the Constitution.
Really, what good is electing a Senator, or Congressman who runs on a pro Constitution platform, then buckles under when the Oval Office says BOO!

I try to introduce as many people as I can to shooting.

Good Senators and Representatives don't get grown overnight... voting locally for people that represent liberty is the key into making the system work. If you don't vote locally, then the people who get elected are the ones selected by the few groups that can afford full-time lobbyists and PR. They then become the party choice for higher offices and gradually work their way up to national office.

Making sure that anti-liberty candidates don't succeed at the lowest levels of government helps insure better choices at the higher levels. The downside is we have a lot of years of apathy to pay for before we will start seeing dividends from this process.

I try to introduce as many people as I can to shooting.

That is another great point. The system reflects the culture that dominates it.

Aw jeez Barb, these aren't nearly as fun as the other threads. You make it seem like fantasies about putting down JBTs aren't helping the RKBA cause! Problem is we just have to fantasize hard enough... like the Force or something! :D

"What am I doing before the total gun ban?"

I am studying the tactics the Iraqi Insurgents use against our soldiers, marines, and national guardsmen.

Suggested reading:
No True Glory: The Battle for Fallujah by Bing West. Bantam Books 2005.

I also talk with the soldiers, marines and national guardsmen who have returned from the Sandbox to get their input.

Last night LtCol Ollie North interviewed members of B Co., 109th Infantry, PAANG. They were in Ramadi. The Co. HQ is in New Milford and East Stroudsberg, PA. A lot of those men are in my gun club. These guys grew up together, and now have fought and shed blood together. They have cleared 1,000's of houses with BG's in them. They know things that no local yocal or state bear has any idea about.

Do you really think that these guardsmen will willingly give up their Model 94 deer rifles because of some law a liberal passes?

Will NEVER happen. I will NEVER give up my guns. If they do come to confiscate I am not sure what I will do but I can not guarantee the safety of the confiscaters.

WT & Jesse, you'll live longer and happier lives if you give more consideration to what Barbara said and less to some sort of macho posturing.

Historically, the majority of gun owners have been total fools as regards the political process. When all that's done is bloviating about, "They can't do that!", rest assured that "They" will try to pass laws enabling "That".

The only way to personal safety and security is to be an active part of the political process. Gun owners must--repeat, must--work to create viable candidates who are at worst neutral on the gun issues, but who know they're beholden to gun owners. Most desirable, of course, is pro-gun...

Well, Barbara, just a short note to say that I really appreciate the effort you're making - keep it up, and I hope to be in a position soon from which I can offer some help.

If the next election puts in a party that is not gun friendly, perhaps one might ask why the gun friendly party got tossed out (if that happens)?

It won't be because of the gun issue that the GOP gets the boot. If they do, perhaps asking the GOP for competent leadership on many issues may be appropriate.

If you put all your eggs in the GOP basket, then don't be surprised. A better long term strategy is to spread the gun rights doctrine into moderate democrats and not just depend on the GOP. Big news, the economic conservative leadership of the GOP doesn't give a real crap about gun rights. They will spout them to sucker in social conservatives.
