Could someone explain the pros and cons of carrying your holstered handgun in the FBI position, versus the straight up and down position. Thank you 1Longbow

By "FBI carry" I assume you mean:

- Strong side

- Just behind the hip joint

- Muzzle to the rear, so that the butt is canted forward.

The big advantage is concealment. Instead of the gun butt protruding from the body, it is tucked against the torso.

If you are carrying in an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster, this position conceals well.

The downside is that locking the wrist during the draw stroke can be difficult or impossible. Depending on your build / gun / holster, drawing from a seated position (such as in a car) can be quite difficult.

In addition to the improved concealment, the "FBI cant" of about 15 degrees can make drawing the gun a bit easier, especially for full-sized duty or service sidearms with 4"-5" barrels.

What badgerw said + the greater the angle, the larger framed pistol you can carry.

I have two IWB Highnoon holsters (Bare Asset) with a 15 degree forward cant (FBI) and I really like both of them. I agree that it really helps with concealment and I like the fact that it helps keep the butt of the gun closer into your body.

I personally also feel I get a bit of a quicker draw from a canted holster than a straight up and down one. Rather than drawing straight up and the pushing the gun forward to the front of me, it feels more like a fluid motion as it is both coming up and forward at the sime time. I know this is splitting hairs but it just feels better to me. Kind of like some guns grips feel better to one person as oppossed to another.
