View Full Version : CTAC problem with "C-clips"?

Does anyone else have a problem with the CTAC holster with C-clips? Maybe my hips aren't shaped right but when I wear it at 3:30-4:00, the rear clip tends to slip behind my gunbelt and down. I end up having to reach back and grab the clip and pull it back onto the belt. It wouldn't happen if the top rung of the C-clip had a lip like the bottom one does.
I may just get standard clips but does anyone else have this problem? It's even worse when you drop trou to use the restroom and one or both of the clips falls behind the belt (grab holster and pants and re-mount when the belt goes gets cinched.)
I looked at the v-clips but attaching velcro to the belt and clip doesn't seem like a very good solution and most pants I own don't have much strength so the top of the clip will pull down the jeans leaving the velcro stuck to the belt to hold it up.
Gear: Gunners Alley 1 1/4" gunbelt, CTAC holding Springfield XD9 subcompact, levis or carhartt jeans.

Have you lost weight since you bought your belt? It sounds like the belt isn't tight enough or your pants don't fit right.
I've had good luck with the c-clips. I will admit though, the standard clips are by far the most secure.

YES!! Mine did the exact same thing. My solution was to switch to the velcro clips & put some velcro on the backside of my belts. Very secure & the most unobtrusive option for belt clips if you tuck your shirt. I use either a C-clip in the front, v-clip in rear or v-clips on both.
The one disadvantage is when you want to adjust the holster location, you have to use both hands to disengage the velcro, then slide the holster while making sure it doesn't reengage! That's why it's sometimes easier to use the c-clip in front. Usually not necessary as it's almost impossible for the holster to shift once you've got it set.
The belt is supposed to take the weight of the pistol/holster combo, not the pants. I couldn't believe the difference when switching from a normal belt to a proper concealed carry belt. I see you already have one. I've used super glue & other stronger glues to ensure the velcro doesn't come off, but having it stitched on is probably the best solution.

I too had the same problem and ended up getting the v-clips and a gunbelt with velcro stitched to the inside. With a good gunbelt, you should have no problems, as gewehr44 said. You can also buy gunbelts from some makers with the velcro already stitched on.

I haven't lost weight (ugh, the opposite actually but I'm gonna fix that :)).
Maybe I'll give the v-clips a shot. Thats one of the things I like about the CTAC, it's semi-modular. I thought about going to a 1 1/2" belt but I don't know if that would make a difference, the belt is stiff, the c-clips just don't grab like I'd like.

Same problem. I was thinking about it just this morning, in fact, and wondering what to do about it. My impression is that the C-clips are just too short to curl far enough around the belt. Pity.
The best clip system I've found is the J-clips developed by Lou Alessi. They grab the pants waistband. The belt fits over those clips, although they grip so tightly that a belt isn't necessary. I wish they (or something like them) were available for the CTAC.
