I was just curious if anyone owns a semi-auto Tommy Gun that are now being produced by Kahr. How does handle, and what's a ball park price. Just curious because I think one would be fun to own.

Hated it. The barrel is too long and throw of the balance of the gun. Its very heavy. The wood is ROUGH and it was quite unreliable. This gun was especially bad at keeping the mag where it belonged, in the gun.

Actually it would be considered a carbine and chambered in a pistol cartridge. I think the only Tommy guns that would be worth having are the original select fire models. Of course, owning one entails a $200 transfer fee, a very thorough background check, a lot of dollars for purchasing the weapon, and even more money for ammo!

a friend bought one of the m1 versions and had some problems.brought it over and we took it back to the range.mags didnt work well.didnt lock up right(mags did fall out here too).the deluxe model boasts a drum mag(but its actually made to hold 10 shots only)it includes a hicap stick mag though too.suppose the drum mag is just for appearances.lol.they can be made more reliable with some work on the latch mechanism.the new ones arent made like the originals,even the semi only.there is also a pistol version of the original make,not seen many but they are around.

I have an M1 variant that was produced by AO before Kahr bought them out. I've heard those ones had spotty reps, but mine runs like a champ. Only had 2 misfeeds due to light reloads. I modified the mag catch so it will take unmodified USGI mags, and it runs GREAT.

Fit and finish is great. The wood is a LITTLE rough.


From what I've heard about the Kahr produced ones, they can be hit or miss out of the box, but Kahr will fix them and fix them right if they are sent back.

i had a 1927A1 thompson before AA bought them. gave it to my frien w/ 7 mags. quite fun. no muzzle rise. well balanced. accurate. FUN!

There was a guy on THR classifieds trying to give one away because he had bad luck with it, and Kahr's service. If memory serves me correctly, he offered the gun at his cost, an SKS, a set of golf clubs, something like 1000 rds.of .45 and every week he threw in something extra in on the deal just to unload it. He was honest and upfront about it's sorry reputation. I know I'll never try to own one.

Almost goy one several months ago. Uncomfortable to fire from the hip and from the shoulder. It was the angle of the pistol grip and having to reach out and grap the forearm. Take away the "image" and you have an expensive, heavy, underpowered "white elephant" that looks neat.:D
