Hello members
Newbie here looking for info on some rings I saw on a fella's rifle. The top half of the rings had an adjustable peep on the rear ring and bead on the front. Has anyone seen these and who made them?

I have not seen this.Seems like a gimimck. They would be way too close together and altogether the wrong heigth to be of any good use.Spend the extra money on a better scope. With the execption of flip-ups on an AR I haven't seen any "backup" sights that were worth spit. Some of the crazy "see thru" sights I have seen on lever guns prevented the shooter fron useing either the irons or the glass to any good effect.

Haven't seen them on a rifle, but my Dad has a Colt Whitetailer (a .357 with a scope from the factory) that has rings with a notched sight (adjustable if I remember right) built into the back ring and a blade built onto the front ring. I don't think I have ever shot it with those irons, just the scope, but it always occured to me that those sights are sitting pretty darn high over the barrel and I wondered what that would do to POI vs. POA.

I looked at these once. Problems I saw was
the sights were something to catch on clothes,
branches, etc; and there was the problem of
clearing large lens bells.
Plus, that shorrt of a sight radius would not help
all that much.

I have practiced taking short range snap shots
using the tops of the eyepiece and objective bells
as reference points.

Millet made a set at one time that was an adjustable blade (not a peep) on the rear ring, and a red ramp on the front ring. I have a set on my 1903 Springfield Scout Rifle. For back-up or a quick snap shot, they work surprisingly well, but remember, this is on a forward-mounted scope. They present a pistol sight picture.

I put them on about two years ago, I think Millet had quit making them, but had some still in stock.

XS makes some ghost ring sights that attach to a Weaver-style rail and others that serve as backups to a scope. Brockman also offers a rear backup ghost ring. But both these setups are designed to work with a front sight mounted in the normal location.
