What Gun Are You Carrying Now?

This has been done, but not for a while.

What gun are you carrying now?

I have a Smith M38 "Bodyguard" in .38 Special in my pocket as I write. It's an alloy framed revolver with a stainless cylinder. Light and easy to carry, but not as easy to shoot as my stainless M649.

"In South Carolina Hp are ok and i got the bullet for free so i say what the heck its free and i put it in."- Kalashnikov, why would you carry FMJ? JHP is going to make 9mm MUCH more effective. Just curious. I only load FMJ at the range.

I have in the past carried:

My first army-issue sidearm was a 1911A1, the frame said Ithaca, no idea where the other parts came from, but it was at least 40 years old. It jammed a lot, but I kept the mags and tried them in other 1911s, army-issue mags just suck.

Beretta 92 -Army issue gun. I was assistant armorer, and we were alerted to keep count of rounds fired, because the mil-grade alloy slides were starting to crack after 10,000 rounds.

Taurus pt-92 -Double action failed, got rid of it.

Thompson 1911 -Horrible fit, finish, and reliability. Front sight flew out. Got rid of it.

S&W Sigma, first-generation .40 -Front sight fell out, feed ramp needed milling, had a squib with factory ammo. Got rid of it.

Colt 1991. No problems to speak of, it just felt cheap. I never had enough time and money to shoot it a lot.

Para-Ordnance P-12. Good enough piece, no problems, but I have never talked myself into really liking compact frames.

Glock 22 in .40 -Never had any problems, I just found myself lusting after the 1911 trigger and design, and I became realistic about the actual advantages of high-capacity vs single stack.

I now carry a Kimber Custom II, internal extractor. I added Hogue wrap-around finger-groove grips, and Novak night-sights. When I get around to it, I will add an arched mainspring housing w/lanyard loop, and drop the full length guide-rod. (My ceiling has a couple of pock-marks from when I have lost my grip on the plunger around the full-length guide-rod.) I carry it everywhere but work and church, I carry it as a sidearm whenever I'm outdoors. I have a Ciener .22 conversion kit for it.

I'm done. This is it. I will be buried with this one.

This is a nice thread to revive from time to time...It is always an interesting topic. As always there are a fair number of revolvers carried. The 1911 style is always well represented.

I still have not changed. I am carrying my Kahr K9. It is a great gun.

Please review the original post by ACP230: . . . What gun are you carrying now?

I have a Smith M38 "Bodyguard" in .38 Special in my pocket as I write. I take this to mean, right this minute, as you read this screen. Not, "What I usually carry when all geared up to go bounty hunting in inner-city Chicago." Not, "While woodswalking in grizzly country," or "What I keep next to my cot in The Green Zone."

The original premise is what makes this an interesting topic. ;)

Right now?

Well, I'm in shorts and a t-shirt so I'm SURELY not armed!!!

(Except for my little Kel-Tec P-32 that ya can't see, of course)

The little Kel-Tec is sooooo light that you can sometimes forget it is in your pocket . . . and you can carry it virtually anywhere undetected.

Nearby is my Kimber (first year) Ultra CDP .45. It is my usual CCW firearm . . . though the Kel-Tec is typically in the pocket too.

REVOLVERS? Well . . . they typically don't "pack" as narrow, but my favorite handgun PERIOD is the customized/tweaked S&W 25-2 .45ACP revolver below w/ a barrel chopped to 3 1/2." With six rounds in each moonclip, I can reload it as fast as I can an automatic. I've won a lot of pin matches with this revolver, and a few tactical matches too. And . . . as they say . . . it shoots "Six For Sure!"

I sometimes carry it in winter and take it with me a lot on trips.

Thank you for the compliment.

I carried a several weapons and holster systems before I arrived at the Kahr and Blade Tech, it works well for me.

I don't foresee my self changing in the future. Although more and more I reach for a 357 when I take a walk in the woods.

"If I was to put my hands in my pockets, I could be arrested for carrying concealed, deadly weapons!"

- Ernest P. Worrel

Any kind of carry is absolutely verboten where I work. Not even the security guards have guns. Therefore, I don't carry here. I have trained in karate, jiu-jitsu, and aikido off-and-on for about twenty years, though, so that's what I would use if I needed it.

The best weapon is the one between your ears, anyway.

S&W 642 in a pocket holster. Its the most comfortable thing for me through most of the year, especially when I do alot of sitting and standing throughout the day. Sometimes I carry a glock in an IWB holster. It is OK if I am either sitting or standing, but it seems like I have to mess with it for 5 mintues to get comfortable after every time I sit down. Maybe I need a new holster? It hard to spend the money to try a bunch out when my 642 is soooo easy.
