Is it possible to cut hollowpoint cavities into cast lead bullets? If so, how is this done?

Thank you.

It is possible but difficult. Unless you make up some sort of jig, you pretty much need a lathe. The bullet is hard to hold without damaging it, and lead tends to be "grabby" when you try and drill it.

Forster makes a couple of different sizes of universal hollow pointer attachments for their case trimmer system. I don't know anything about them...

What you do is get some pliers, some cloth to pad them with and a drill. Hold the bullet with the pliars and drill out the tip to make a hollow point.

It's easier just to buy hollowpoint bullets.

if you want hollow points I'd reccomend simply buying them.

For a hollowpoint to really do what it is supposed to do it needs to be done just right and also should be jacketed. This is why you have premium self defense rounds (like gold dots) and you have just basic generic hollow points. Both have the same basic principle but premium is better designed and will give you better results.

If ya just gotta be a do-it-yourselfer, a drill press is the best tool for the job.

Thanks Art, and everybody. I will be creating dead-soft lead hollowpoints for .25ACP. I don't know of any place to buy such a thing... ?

And yes, I know a .32ACP is better than a .25ACP, etc.. I shoot both into gelatin.
