I saw a few blurbs about this, mostly from the Shot Show. Has anyone seen a review or handled one? I'm also wondering about iron sights, Remington does not say anything about them on their web site.

I just looked at one on their website. It sure looks the business. Very nice but a 20" barrel would be interesting. I sure would like one is all I can say.

FWIW, these are the same guns that were being sold by Charles Daly before Remington bought them out...

I do not believe that they had any at the demo shoot I went to a couple weeks ago.

I handled the new 750 Woodsmaster, 105CTi, 1100 G3, 870 with laminate stock, Italian-made doubles, tactical shotguns, etc., but I don't remember seeing a Mauser-based rifle there. I could be wrong, but I think I'd have noticed it.

Same actions (Zastava Yugo Mausers). I'm not sure about the barrels. The stocks are US-made and similar to CDL's AFAIK.

Bastardized or optimized? You decide, I guess. I will say that their other new offerings were really nice, across the board.

I just bought a 799 in 7.62 x 39 today and am quite impressed so far. Metal is nicely blued and the mini mauser is, well I hate to say it but, its darn cute. Very nice trigger. For traditional Mauser lovers like me, this is a wonderful lightweight rifle. So far I'm very pleased. :)

Just a FYI, the Model 799, aka Mini-Mauser, is not really a Mauser at all as it lacks the full length claw extractor. The design of the Mini "looks like" a Mauser extractor but it isn't. If functions more like a Sako.

Nothing wrong with it, just so you know.

I handled one at cabela's yesterday, it looked well made and had a beautiful stock. They are on sale until Nov 2 for 369.00. Maybe my SO will give me an early present. I did not ask what the capacity was.

I have one I just bought a few days back, and spent yesterday dialing a scope on it.

It's a good looking rifle, and the accuraccy is more than acceptable, however a major problem has cropped up. I have the 22 Hornet version, which has a detachable magazine.

Every time I fired the rifle, the magazine dropped out. I have not yet talked to Remington, so this may be a problem with a bad mag, but if it is a design problem, then it's huge, as it makes the gun virtually useless for hunting.

I'll post more once I have talked to the folks at Remington.

Hello:
I realize this is a few years old post now but id like to do a follow up.
Has anyone found a place to get the Remington model 799 22Hornet parts or even extra clips ?
Also others have been searching on other forums for parts for rhr Remington 798 7x39 caliber.
Has anyone found parts for that rifle for others to read here later ?
Remington imported the 798 / 799 / 5 from zastava in Russia for a couple of years with the Remington name on it but dropped the rifles a couple of years later and supplied no parts support.
If anyone has any info or leads for parts please post the info.
Thank You in advance.

The 798 is just a rebadged Interarms MK-X. They were sold under several names before Remington They were farily common and parts shouldn't be impossible to find.

Do a search for the Interarms MK-X rifles. Can't help with the 799.

Zastava is made in Serbia, not Russia. Century International Arms claims to be the current US distributor.

Here is it , M85, in 22 Hornet. I had a 799 in 7.62x39, nice little gun and accurate, but broke the extractor and realized parts are hard to find. EAA was the service center for the 799 at the time, their part inventory was running low, I wanted to buy 2 extractors, but they only sold me one. I sold the rifle then.
