My local gun shop has a early production model Glock 22 for sale.

My friend told me that he thinks these early production model Glock 22's have been "recalled" by Glock for some reason.

Is this correct, and if so, why?

Is a early production model Glock 22 okay to buy, or should I look for a later production date?

No, Glock hasn't recalled any of its models. However, there are periodic updates, where components that have been improved can be retrofitted to earlier models. This is often done for free by Glock armorers at Glock Shooting Sports Federation (GSSF) matches, or you can get your local gunsmith (if he's a Glock armorer) to do them while you wait. If you want to know what upgrades are available, write to Glock with your serial number, and they'll be glad to tell you. You can also send them the gun, and they'll do the work.

There are at least two "upgrades" available for the early G22s. The firing pin upgrade and the extractor/ejector upgrade. Keep in mind it isn't cheap to ship handguns anymore when making your decision.

Maybe he meant to say "refurbished" ie. sent back for all upgrades and function check, and then put back out to be sold. Mine was refurbished in 1999, some finish wear but all the updates on this 2nd gen Glock22 were already done. I've been seeing them floating around, usually for $400 or less, and about $450 with a hi-cap and 10 rounder.

Have him call glock and ask for the warranty dept. Then give them the serial number and they can tell you if anything needs to be done to the gun.
