Kent County Commissioner Mayhew went on record the other day that he would like to see a county gun buyback. Why? Well it seems the druggie gang bangers have been asserting their territorial rights in SE Grand Rapids and there have been a couple dozen shooting over the last couple months, including at least 12 fatal assassinations. In fact, two brothers, one crime free and the other with a couple of minor misdemeanors assassinated a local drug goblin that had been terrorizing the neighborhood. Seems they had their fill of him and walked up and shot him to death.

Commissioner Mayhew, who is a local troublemaker and virtually anti-anything having to do with the local police, believes that these evil guns will suddenly pick up and walk away from their gang banger owners and submit themselves for confiscation. Mayhew also wants amnesty for the shooters, drug lords, murderers, drive by shooters and generally any bg. He also wants to have peace talks with the bangers. :banghead:

To his credit, Grand Rapids Police Chief Dolan's comment was: (loosely quoted) "Every gun buy back that I've seen only resulted in the turning in of guns other than the ones we'd like to see. I don't support it. As for peace talks, if you invite me I'll bring along some of my officers and we'll arrest those with outstanding warrants." Kudo's to Dolan!

One wonders why Mayhew's local supporters don't encourage him to get behind re-uniting the family breakdown in his community, to encourage kids to stay in school, learn a trade, begin a culture of work and accountability rather than welfare and standing around the corners in baggy pants making up rap songs all day long. Nope, he'd rather whine and encourage folks to be continue in the culture of victimhood and acceptance of the fact that their children are out of control. Mayhue ought to be rounding them up rather than blaming, once again, the tools used by these no-accounts. I've been watching this man make a fool out of himself for years. Fortunately he has some opposition this year for his Commission seat: A local AM radio activist that advocates personal responsibility. He seems to be having a ever growing constituancy. We'll see who the public supports; a whining, blame everything but the problem Mayhue or a stand up take charge sort of guy.

Wow, the sayin' "they can't make this stuff up" comes to mind. The question isn't whether this can happen in America, it's if it can happen at all.

maybe...Truth stranger than fiction?

again, wow!

Peace talks with gang people indicates that they are involved in a war, and not crime, and that gangs are a force to be reckoned with. While current enforcement is evidently not working that well, "peace talks" sends the wrong message if you ask me.

Just once I would like to see some county, some city issue a Declariation for one week-

--All persons allowed to carry concealed, no permits allowed, not required to have concealed.

-Now imagine folks on front porches with rifles/shotguns/sidearms ...

-Mom pushing a buggy with kiddo with a long gun slung and sidearm on the parking lot, in the store going down the aisles, checkout and back out to vehicle...

-Gunracks with Lever action 30-30's and pump shotguns displayed...

-Picnic at the park, all folks packing, and long guns slung...
-Ditto the T-ball games and soccer games...

NO illegal nothing, law abiding citizens conducting everday activities, no firearm restrictions...

Would not need buy-backs. Gang-bangers, criminals, thugs, rapists...etc., would leave and find another area with firearm restrictions.

Just once I would like to see this occur and watch the thugs run like roaches when the light switch is turned on and the light shines bright.

Just once - please.

This is a GREAT idea! Here's a suggestion for the opening remarks:

Requiescat In Pace

This police chief has the right idea, and if the county commissioner cared one iota for the wellfare of the community instead of making a political name for himself, he propose more funding for the police.

I also agree with Grampster's sumation of the problem.

Problem is their killing tends to expand beyond the membership of the gangs.

Hey Steve...Pretty good plan. Since we're addressing "Things that ain't gonna happen" I've got a better one.

No secret that I just don't have a lotta use for the gangsta thing that's ruinin' my country. I may even get banned for this...or at least whacked upside the head...but here goes.

My plan:

Spread the word that each city wants one gangsta to be the boss...and that they only have to eliminate the opposition. Offer to provide transportation.

Fence in about a hundred acres far from decent folks. Bus'em in, issue a pair of Glock Foh-Tays per man, and all the ammo he can carry on his baggy britches...and let'em have at it for 72 hours. Last man standin' gets all the juice, and New Jack City has a new Godfather. Fo' Shizzle! Boo-Yah!

No need to worry about the clean-up. Think of it as a Meals on Wheels program for the crows.

Repeat as needed.

Rant off.

including at least 12 fatal assassinations

Gang members and drug dealers don't get assassinated. They get murdered, they die.......whatever. Describing their murders as an assassinations only adds legitimacy to their pathetic lives.

John F Kennedy was assassinated.
Ghandi was assassinated.
Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated.

How does he buy back something he never owned in the first place... The guy sounds as stupid as the idea. You can tell him I said so.

He also wants to have peace talks with the bangers.
I think that's a great idea - if by "peace talks" he means "napalm".

There was a story today in Massachusetts in regards to a Reverend who is pushing to hire 20 former gangbangers who were jailed at one time. These former gang members would go into the Boston community and try to talk some sense into current gang members to give up that type of life. These guys are to be paid $40,000 a year. The though is that current gang members might listen to former gang members. I'm doubtful it will work.

Oh and we are also doing a gun buyback. It would seem though that a number of gun owers are turning in their working pieces of crap, that are pretty worthless, for $200 Target gift cards.

As long as we're at it, let's make sure that at least one round per magazine handed out has a MUCH larger charge of powder. Like 3x or more (assuming it fits. May as well toss some fuel into the KaBoom files while we're at it.
