I have thought of changing my Hogue with finger grooves in my Colt Govt to wood grips. Whats a good one to put on? I see a seller here with a Gunsite wood grips for sale at $25 shipped. Is that fair price and how is this compared to others like the Cocobolo or Rosewoods? Who sells them ? Thanks

Wood grips run from cheap to expensive, and usually you get what ya pay for (talking new, not used) If your looking for NICE wood grips, I'd check out

Esmerelda does make beautiful grips.
For those of us with less deep pockets, Smith and Alexander makes nice grips, as does Chip McCormick. Kim Ahrends is a standard of the grip industry, as is Hogue. You can expect a nice product from any of these four.

Man those slender esmeralda grips are nice but pricey. S A is a bit cheaper.

I know you are looking wood, but have you considered metal?
I am a big fan of Alumagrips- the standard checkered ones seem to be easier on the hands than the wood grips I have used. Almost as comfy as those rubber Hogue grooved wraparound grips.

Wood grips are really nice but I can also recommend the AlumaGrips.

I think my Alumagrips are heavier than my wood grips.

Best place I've found for really nice inexpensive wood grips is Hogueauction.com. These are seconds that are sold in auction format (with pics) at greatly reduced prices. I've purchased several sets and couldn't find anything wrong with most of them.
If you want to drop some coin, Esmereldas are very hard to beat. Craig Spegals and Ahrends (if you can find them) also top my list. Good luck.

I think mine are too. It isn't heavier by much (on my Al-framed 5" 1911, they don't make all day carry a chore), but a bit. They do feel great though.
