A Glock 23 is a great gun. Are you skinny? You didn't give weight but chances are you'll have no problem concealing a G23 with the right holster and belt. Reliable, good capacity, good caliber, zillions of upgrades available.
The one complaint I have about my G23 is the .40 S&W is a snappy caliber. It seems to have more muzzle flip than my .45 and definitely more than my 9mm subcompact. Once I get some more trigger time with the 23 I'm sure I'll get used to it but I can get follow up shots quicker and more accurately with the 9mm.
Glocks have the typical european grip angle, which is steeper than a 1911 style. If you like the 1911 angle check out a Springfield XD.
Best thing to do is find a range that rents guns and try them all out. What works for some people doesn't work for others and a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Get what you shoot best and can conceal.

I have a G23 and like it a lot. If you have big hands I think you should also check out the G30 in .45. With big hands the bigger grip might feel better. I dont care for the feel of a 1911 because the grip is a little to thin for my tastes. Thats why I use a G23.

I can't tell you. I can tell you what I've done and what seems to work for others.

Find a place that will rent you a gun to try.

Find local people you can shoot with, good entry point is a club, local gun rights org, etc.

Shoot as many pistols as you can and note how well it feels. If it causes pain etc etc.

Once you've narrowed it down shoot some more, shooting paper is fun.

Then choose.

If you have shot and like the Glock, get it and use the hell out of it so you will know what you want out of the next one.

Yes there will be a next one. It's not a disease it's a condition. :neener:
