Not sure if anyone else has posted this, I couldn't find anything on it using search. Here is a link to an AR15.com thread detailing Sportsman's Guide supply of Wolf .223. As of now it's back-ordered, but still a decent price.

P.S.--Don't forget to scroll through the thread for the coupon codes listed ;) .

This has to be the worst ammo i ever used. A few years back i ordered some Wolf ammo in .223 for my Ruger mini-14 and some in 7.62x39mm for my MAK-90. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?p=AX5M1&i=52591
In the MAK-90 after firing a 30 round clip or 2 you would allways get a shell casing shearing off. This would require me breaking the gun down and using a screw extractor to get the broken shell out of rifle bore. I know the gun was not to fault because right after i fired several 30 round clips using Federal ammo with no problems.
Then i try the .223 Wolf ammo in my Ruger mini-14. About every 30 to 60 rounds one would not fire. Again i would put in Federal .223 ammo and fire many clips and never a misfire.
I think the case shearing off is caused by them using bad steel cases, maybe to thin or something. Also note you can't reload steel cases.
The second thing wrong with this ammo is that it uses, polymer coated for better function (sic) That stuff coats your barrel and is a nightmare to clean out.
Another ammo to stay away from is Silver bear. http://www.gzanders.com/bearammo/sbrifle.html
This ammo did not shear off but is steel case and polymer coated and had a very high misfire rate.

Sorry to hear about your problems with Wolf ammo. Granted it's a bit dirty, but not much more than Winchester white box stuff. I've shot (plinking - nothing important) over the years at least 10K of Poly & lacquer Wolf in .223, 7.62X39, .45 ACP & 9mm with no case separations or really other problems in my Bushie & Colt ARs, Mak90, Springfield & Colt 1911s and the Glocks.
I've had no problems with the polymer(or even the lacquered stuff) "coating the barrel" or experienced worn out or broken extractors or any of the other  EVIL  things that Wolf supposedly causes.
The reason I shoot Wolf is that I don't have to reload and pick up brass cases and it's about 1/2 of what other .223 costs. More shooting for 30 seconds of more cleaning is a pretty good tradeoff.
I've never shot much of the Silver Bear so I have will hold any comment on it. Remington UMC and some other brands out there are worse than Wolf IMHO.

I've bump fired the stuff until the barrel smoked and never had issue with the new polymer stuff.

I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. The stuff that "coats your barrel" WAS the laquer they USED to use. The new poly coating will not coat your chamber.

I had very bad experences with wolf a few years ago... However, I head they have improved and changed .... so I tryed them out, about 1000 rounds later.... im convinced there good stuff to shoot at a fair price. I wouldnt use it for any compeition stuff, but for plinking it's what i use for .223....

I have never had a single reliabilty issue with Wolf .223 or 7.62X39 after several hundred rounds through my Armalite and Vepr. Take it for what it is worth. :)

I didn't mean to start another "Wolf is from the Devil/No it's the greatest" thread, just wanted to let those interested know about the deal at SG. It seems that the topic of Wolf ammunition in general has been discussed enough in plenty of other threads.

I use it for competition, but I don't really care about "winning". I also ran it at a class. 1 FTE, on 2 different occasions, with a hot hot barrel, is acceptable to me. For social work? No way! For everything else? You bet! The way I look at it, is if the gun works with the worst, it will work with anything.
