Flip up Rear Sight

I was shopping around for a flip up rear sight for an AR that I am building and thought I should pick the brains of the THR members to see what's good and what's bad.
Anyone have any experiences, bad or good with any flip top rear sights? What should I look for and what should I stay away from?
Any help would be appreciated.

I am very satisfied with the flip-up rear sight that comes with the A.R.M.S. Swan Sleeve.

Ditto.
The ARMS #40 is tops, too.

Another A.R.M.S. #40 user here, love it.
I also have a GG&G MAD flip-up on another rifle which works very well also, but I think the A.R.M.S. unit is still better. It just seems to be better put together.

For AR rear sights, I have tried...
Bushmaster Carry handle
ARMS #40 (old version)
ARMS #38 EX
Bushmaster BMAS
DPMS Detachable
ARMS #40 A2
The only one I was truely happy with, the only one I still have, is the ARMS #40 A2.

I just put an ARMS #40 on my Bushmaster flattop. It's first-rate and installed in about 5 seconds.

Gordan, I guess a picture is worth a 1000 words. I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow. I'll go outside and get some natural light.
SIR # 45 forend.

Mark: thanks, will that SIR foreend mount work on my Colt preban flattop 20"? Does ARMS make that too? Is there any adapter between or any down sides? It sure looks GOOD!

Yeah, it's an ARMS S.I.R. #45
That forend will "fit" on your 20" but you would end up with an exposed gas tube between your front sight and the front of the forend.
It's really made for the shorty AR's.

A.R.M.S. just recently came out with full length SIR systems, for full size ARs. Check out their web site: http://www.armsmounts.com
I am currently running an ARMs #40 and am very satisfied with it. I replaced a GG&G A2 sight. I never had any complaints with the GG&G sight, I just was on a buying spee and decided to completely retro-fit my main AR. I added a KAC RAS II which meant that I had to replace my GG&G cantilever mount for my Aimpoint since it now sat way too high. So, I got an ARMs mount which is super nice. So, when I ordered the ARMs scope mount, I decided what the heck and bought the ARMs rear sight too. It is also a very nice sight. I like the fact that it is spring loaded since it sits so high up off the receiver. I have had good results with both sights out to 200 yards. I guess if I had it to do over again, I would go with the ARMs #40.
