I ran a search on this forum and only came up with 10 hits, and not much discussion. I thought it was a pretty popular make. Is there something about them that steers people towards other brands?

Nothing wrong with them---it's just that for the same money or a few bucks more---you can do better. Esp. with the autoloaders.

There was/is a Franchi O/U in the store here---a little 20ga priced just over $1000--beautifull little gun---nice wood and very lightweight. I would own this gun right now if the comb wasn't so high---everytime I pick this gun up---or anyone else for that matter---you are looking down at the bead---and not sighting down the rib---even the cheap Mossberg and Remington pumps do a better job than this on making the stock drop right. So there it sits.

Franchi's AL 48 has been a popular field gun for decades. The Veloce O/U has been getting lots of ink in the publications that cater to upper income shotgunners.

They're neither great bargains nor junk.

IMO, they have not been and are not now marketed very well/aggresively as compared to the regular makes Italian and domestic. The Chinese even have them beat as they are cheap and, because of this, are very abundant.
