Does anyone know anything about the VL Caseless Ammunition? It is .22 caliber with 10 rounds in a plastic tube made by Daisy-Heddon of Rogers, Ark. No cartridge case/velocity 1150 fps/ no primer to cause rust and corrosion as stated on box. Would appreciate any help, thanks.

Mods: This would probably be more appropriate in the Harley Nolden forum, but I figured the more exposure the better.

Ain't that something...

Google is your friend, check it out:

Over the years, Daisy has manufactured nearly 100 different models of toy guns and nearly 400 different models of bb and pellet guns. They made their first firearm in 1968 which fired a "Caseless Ammunition" round. It was called the VL0001 and was fired with a revolutionary type of propellant, similar to rocket fuel. The ammunition was developed by a Belgian petrochemist by the name of Jules Van Langenhoven. Thus the model designation "VL". The gun went out of production in 1969.

As it was produced, Daisy basically made an AIR RIFLE fire a caseless round...a spring piston in a cylinder compressed air...air was heated by this compression and squirted out to ignite the base of the VL round. As airgunners know, there is a whole lot of "monkey motion" going on before a pellet starts to move...more so with the VL as all that motion only served to ignite the powder charge on a round that struggled to match a .22 short.

Accuracy wasn't helped by the odd shaped "teat" on the base of the bullet to hold the powder charge in place.
