Yes, I did it... I borrowed a friend's homemade tool to change the barrel on my project 586. You know the rest, Is there any hope??? I think I got it straight(backstrap), everything goes back together and functions but???

What can a smith do?? I was just in Micanopy on a field trip for the fire college, can you do something with this frame?

You say everything goes back together and functions.

So what's the problem? Mechanical or cosmetic?

Sorry, can't help on the 586, but having it checked out by someone with experience can make sure everything is working properly. And they can probably get everything back 100%.

Besides, I think everyone has been there. I distinctly remember my 'this was easier in theory' moment.

Fire school, huh? Where you located? I used to frequent Harry's range back when Rob ran it. Don't do much shooting anymore though.

I'm from the panhandle of FL around Destin, I'm a LT. fire medic trying to get a degree before I retire in a few years: The Dept. is paying......
I took a building construction class, and Micanopy has alot of old style construction methods... nice town. I'll stop in when I get back down. I was really concerned maybe the frame strength was compromised, I just like knowning everything is safe. John
