Coworker stopped me on my way out the door today and asked if I had seen the flyer from Bass Pro Shop. No I had not. He tells me of a sale that starts on the 5th. Winchester 50 rnd White Box FMJ for $3.88. Anyone seen this? I have not. If it's true, I may have to get a case or ten.

Are they giving out rain checks or is this one of those sales where each store gets 10 boxes to sell at that price with no rain checks (I used to work at a now out of business store that pulled things like that  ). Hopefully there will be rain checks as those will be gone FAST.

I got the flyer today from Bass pro in Lawrencville, Ga. It says "No mail, phone or internet orders. Sale prices good May 1 thru 15. Bass pro reserves the right to limit quantities".

It might be best to call your closest store. It is for 9mm only.

Um, yes. All of the above. Plus hunting equipment, camping supplies, clothing, boots, etc.

The Win Super X game loads for 2.99/box looks pretty good, too.

Just picked up 1300 rounds for a little over $100. Damn thats a deal. They have about a case and a half left on the floor. I asked the guy at the counter and he said that was all they had right now (none left in the back)- They were hoping to get some more in this week, maybe tonight from what he was telling me. This is almost (not quite) as cheap as realoading from scratch. (no primers, brass or bullets on hand) so for me this was a DEAL. Go now, tell your friends. Bass Pro ROCKS!!!!

ps- They told me the guy that came before me bought about 40 boxes. Any of you guys the culprits?

Just picked up three cases (1500rds) at the Bass Pro here in Orlando. They had about ten cases left. There was a line out the door this morning before they opened and they expect to be out by noon. The guys here said they have 1200 more cases coming and they're issuing rain checks until that is all gone, then that's it.

I was at Bass Pro Shops over at Opry Mills today. Winchester USA 9mm 115gr. FMJ was marked $8.99 per box of 50. Thinking the sale hadn't started yet, I left. :(

When I got there about noon o'clock, I was just as confused. I asked 3 different employees about the sale and it was the 3rd guy that knew what I was talking about.

Go to the section of counter where the scopes are, then turn around. They are on the end of the isle, not with all the other ammo.

Good luck! I bought 4 boxes at lunch, then 6 more after work. Between noon and 5:30pm, more than half the stock was gone. (They are expecting more in a couple of days.)

FYI, this evening when I went, the guy behind the counter said they will start a maximum limit. He didn't know what the limit would be, but he thinks it will start tomorrow.

triggertime,

Yep, I was there around 3 pm today and picked up 15 boxes. They also have some stored to the right of that isle end but the sale sign is not posted there so it's a bit confusing. It is posted on the isle end portion low (below UMC $6.99 50-round boxes).

On the other hand, I looked at some spotting scopes and binoculars. Had no idea how expensive some of this stuff was - $1000 and $1300 binoculars with $700 being an average price.

Maybe some other time

But Darrin, I and a co worker went at 5:30 and I know we put a hurting on the dwendling supply.

Those Binoculours you were looking at were the high end stuff....the cheap normal people stuff is in the isles :). Was happy to see they have red dots there for 40 bucks tho....think that might go well on a high point carbine to shoot this ammo with. But dad has 2 pair of nice binoclours he got for his trip to New Zeland....something like 400 dollars a pair. Id take them if i could :)

Shopping report from Maryland. I was the first in line when the store opened at 9AM. Strolled calmly but with purpose back to the hunting section only to have to cool my heels for about 5 minutes while the stock guys bought up the first pallet from the back. I kept expecting to see a sea of middle aged, steely eyed,no BS shooter types show up,but it was just me and two other gents. There were more guys in line to get fishing supplies, rod & reels, then to buy ammo!:what: Loaded up my cart with 10 cases, talked to another guy who loaded up with 20 cases, and I was gone. The store just opened, they were unloading 280 cases, and I fully expect them to be gone by the end of the day.

Funny, last night while telling the missus what I was going to do this morning, she totally understood. Shes gone through the same thing when buying shoes,a outfit she's got to have, etc. She plans her early morning, take no prisoner, beat the other woman, battlebuys with more precision then the military.I briefly thought about waiting till midday, but she helped me change my mind about that very quickly.:scrutiny:

I just got back from the Cincinnati store. They were completely sold out of both the white box and the UMC that they were substituting for. They did give me (and my wife) a rain check for 25 boxes (maximum for the rain check - don't know if that is store wide policy or just local) so eventually we'll have 50 boxes to go pick up. They didn't know when more would be arriving.

For DFW folks, a related quote from a guy over at Glock Talk:

I got 2000 rounds at Galyan's here in Dallas that matches at 110% of the price difference, so I lucked out and got it at $3.54/box. They have since lowered their price to $3.99/box, but still compared to the usual $5.99 or $6.99 that I pay, that is still almost 2 for 1

----------------------------------

I took a rain check in Grapevine Bass Pro for 30 boxes around noon Friday. After seeing the $3.54 deal, I might just have to show it to 'em at Gaylans. :D

Lots of Glockers are in town for the annual GSSF shootout in Carrollton this weekend, so I doubt much cheap ammo is going to remain on the floor for very long anywhere ... ;)

Wish I had read this Friday PM. I was there at 0900 Sat AM. No Win Whitebox, and totally out of the UMC substitute. Got a raincheck, but getting back there won't be easy (I was driving through MD on my way back to LForD country). BTW, the stack of raincheck slips looked like a phonebook.

MDers, I went to get some today and I was told that they are not only out, but the backlog of rain checks means that I won't get mine for 2-4 weeks. Oh well, for 38.80 for a case of 9mm I'll wait. I was at the Arundel Mills location on Saturday (3 May), and they gave me a raincheck for 2 cases (40 boxes). No one said anything about a one case limit. In fact, when the guy said, "How many do you want?", I think I could have said "200," and he would have written it down.

Depends on who you get, I guess.

ScottS,

Well, there were signs everywhere so it is currently the store's policy. I remember someone on here mentioning that there was no official Bass Pro Shop policy to limit the amount, but some people were speaking of buying thousands of rounds and others had limits and someone here said that it was up to the store to put a limit or not on the amount you can buy. My guess, the MD store had no limit for a while, but after seeing demand, and probably after some people buying thousands of rounds and now having a wait list that could stretch into a month or more, they decided sometime into the sale that they wanted to set a limit.

What I'm now wondering though, they do take your name and info for the rain check so they can contact you. However, they are just putting it on a slip and putting it with the stack so checking for duplicates wouldn't be labor efficient. What would stop someone from going back a couple days later and filling out another rain check? So long as they didn't get such a huge shipment that they called you on both rain checks the same day you should be fine.

ScottS
May 6, 2003, 08:34 PM
Chaim,

I'm not surprised there seems to be more than one "version." When I got there, I asked one employee where the ammo was, and he said, "Going to get some of that great 9mm, right?" When I got to the counter, the sales guy knew there was a sale on Winchester, but wasn't sure if they had any left. (The were sold out twice already by this point). I told him I heard they were substituting UMC (heard it here), and he had to look around before I pointed out the sign on the counter by the register that said, in big letters, "SUBSTITUTE UMC 9MM FOR WINCHESTER." Then he started looking for the UMC. After looking for 5 minutes or so, another sales guy came up and said they were long sold out of UMC. That's when he took my raincheck and said, "How many do you want?" I'm sure that if you got this guy, he'd stand under a giant "ONE CASE LIMIT" sign and sell you a dump-truck load.

Timing is everything.

I went to the Opry Mills store this afternoon and was given a raincheck for my 10 box limit. The clerk said it should be in on Friday. He also said someone had come in earlier and tried to buy 600 boxes! I'm assuming it was someone from THR. :D

Got my 10 box raincheck today. The counter guy said that they'd had hundreds of folks ask for the ammo.

I'm not in any rush. Bass Pro inventory seems to work on a magical--not a logical--system.

I got a raincheck for some Tru-Glo sights a month before turkey season. Season ended today. Still no sights.

ScottS
May 7, 2003, 09:25 AM
I think the key here is there is no date limit stamped on my raincheck. Instead of rushing back on the first day they re-supply, I think I'll slide in a few months from now when the THR rush has died down and get my ammo.
