Hi,

My local shop just got in a new brand of electronic earmuffs--called Puramex PM 4010.

Can anyone give a review of these things, or the older models?

Important to me:

They smoothly suppress gunshots but don't mess up the other sounds. And they don't "click" when they suppress.

They recover quickly after suppressing a shot.

I don't have to take the whole unit apart to change batteries.

No audible distortion.

Comfort would be nice, too.

Price.

If you don't know these new Pyramex units, can you recommend any other good unit for under $100?

Thanks.

Have you given any thought to using in the ear plugs? I've got a set of these:

and I like them. They're cool in the summer and dont' interfer with a wide brimmed hat. They have a NRR of 28, which is almost as good as foam earplugs and better than most of the ear muff types.

Sorry kmca,

Earplugs are banned at my club.

The chief range safety officer claims that hearing can be damaged by sound through the mastoid process, which earplugs do not protect.

I don't know enough anatomy to say if he's right or wrong.

I'd certainly prefer using earplugs. I already have two pairs.
