Just bought a marlin 336SS. I don't want to scope it so was wondering what would be a good sight set up for this gun. Will use at the range and some hunting. any links would be appreciated.

An aperture (peep) sight works very well on the Marlins. Try www.williamsgunsight.com

You might want to do a search here - this topic comes up about once a month and generally drags out some good (if not shopworn) opinions and products.
Having tried the Williams and XS offerings, I'm partial the the XS setup. The Wild West Guns or Brockman setups are supposed to be the bees knees, but they're too rich for my blood.

A receiver sight would be my recommendation. I have both Williams and Lyman models mounted on several weapons. Both are perfectly suited to a Marlin carbine.
Williams makes the "5-D" model which is very reasonably priced. It lacks the micrometer "click" adjustments of their "Foolproof" model, but is every bit as rugged and precise. They also have a combo of the FP and a fiber optic "Firesight" front bead of the proper height which can be had for less than the retail for the separate items, and can often be found discounted from MSRP from various catalog outfits. My personal favorite when used with the protective "hood" made to allow light in while still protecting the blade.
Lyman's model 66 is an all-steel unit which is quite compact and rugged. It's a very reliable product and especially suited to compact LAs like the Winchester '92 and clones or the Marlin 39s and '94s.
While I have nothing against the "Ghost Ring" concept, I personally prefer the option of picking my aperture size to suit conditions and the task at hand. The Williams and Lyman models with their inexpensive and easily changed threaded apertures allow me to do this whenever I like. If I want or need a true "Ghost Ring", I can just remove the threaded insert and voila-there it is.

I have the XS sights on my 336 Spikehorn and I like them. I eventually will put a Scout scope mount and an FX-II Scout scope.
