I may be visting the Orlando area later this summer. May have time to sneak away for some shooting at the range. Any suggestions for places to shoot? Where's a good place to buy ammo in the area?

Thanks

I've been to most of the shops/ranges in the Orlando FL area. For what is worth, I'd say the Shoot Straight in Apopka(North OBT/441) is best for buying new weapons. The place is new(2002) and is well stocked. The gun range is nice but costs a lot of $$$. They also put a lot of restrictions on you to use it. Riegs in south OBT/Orlando is cheaper and easy to shoot at. They have a limited selection but do use Gunsamerica.com and JGsales.com to help customers buy firearms. Riegs is in a "bad" part of Orlando but does get a lot of business. I'd AVOID the Army/Navy store in Altamonte Springs FL(434). The clerks are stuck up and the owner/manager is very crass/insulting to customers. I wanted to buy a new Bianchi shoulder rig for my Taurus revolver and asked for a refund because of that shop's BS. It's not worth it. Stay away from the gun range/shop on Oak Ridge too. The service mgr is a nutcase and the prices are way over what you should pay(EXAMPLE: Corbon .38spl JHPs; online-$14.00/16.00, that shop: $22.00, WTF!?!).
Other places may exist that I have not seen or used but for your use I'd go to Shoot Straight. Note: some sales clerks look like carnival workers(tats, purple hair, etc) and do not know Jack **** about firearms/ammo but others are well versed in the shooting sports/firearm industry.

For training/classes I suggest the S2 Institute. www.s2institute.com
Most Orlando area K/CC class instructors are "gunshop commandos" and "wannabe Rambos" who have no clue about gun laws/use of force/firearms/etc.

PM me if you want more details.
