FN-49 fires doubles

I fired a 308 FN-49 for the 1st time and it shoots 2 rnds
when the trigger is pulled. I loaded only 2 rnds each time.
This is not a select fire version and I have 3 others in different calibers.
Nothing looks wrong with the trigger assy as I matched it with a 30-06
FN-49 and they appear to be identical.
Any help?

Do some troubleshooting...
1. Unload the rifle.
2. Remove the magazine (this prevents the bolt hold open from working while you manually cycle the bolt carrier).
3. Retract the bolt carrier knob and release, letting it fly home (to simulate loading a round from the magazine).
4. Pull the trigger and keep it pulled (don't let it go). You should hear the hammer fall. If you didn't hear the hammer fall, then the hammer followed the bolt due to a trigger mechanism fault.
5. With the trigger still held back, retract the bolt carrier knob and release, letting it fly home again. This simulates the bolt cycling to load another round from the magazine.
6. Release the trigger. The hammer should not fall. If it does, then there is a trigger mechanism fault.
The other possibility is a stuck firing pin. Remove the receiver cover, bolt carrier and bolt. The firing pin should move freely and should only protrude from the bolt face when you push it from the rear of the bolt (simulating the FP being hit by the hammer). FN49s have a 2-piece FP and have been known to break.

I checked the bolt and the firing pin functions by depressing the rear
of the pin where the hammer hits.
Just 1 thing, when compared to the spring pressure to depress the firing pin on the 308 vs the 30-06 the 30-06 feels 2 times as much pressure to move the firing pin forward.
I suspect this is a problem and maybe causing a slam fire.
What do you think? I would be taking the bolt apart next.

I checked the bolt assy against the 30-06.
The 308 has a 2 piece firing pin assy. The 30-06 has a 1 piece.
The spring on the 308 is shorter by 2 turns than the 30-06.
This would account for the pressure difference when depressed.
I defer to your greater knowledge on this. I could swap the spring and try it, I suppose.

Bingo. The firing pin spring was 2 turns short. Replaced with 1 from a 30-06 FN and all is well.
Now I need a spring.
Thought I would let interested people know the fix.
