several of you have been offering advice with my search for the ideal "stash away" .223 ammo, thanks again . but,now i'm thinking of trying some upcoming local gunshows for some deals, and i was wondering,if so-and-so advertises "M193- $219 a case", how do i tell it's what he claims it is? :uhoh:

Look at the packaging, look at the headstamps.
Federal XM-193 comes in brown 20 round boxes labeled Federal XM-193 like this (http://www.ammoman.com/images/223-0100-1.jpg).
Winchester Q3131A comes in white 20 round boxes labeled Winchester with Q3131A in smaller letters (on the side if I remember correctly).
There was some good South African M193 going around a while ago, but I've never seen that so I don't know what it looks like. I do know it came in sealed plastic battle packs, probably containing brown 20 round boxes like the 7.62 stuff.
There is some Malaysian M193 out there now. It looks like this here (http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/223.html).
I wouldn't trust anything else to be M-193 spec.
BTW, has anybody directed you to www.ammo-oracle.com (http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm) yet?
