My Kimber

I've noticed from reading THR that Kimber has gotten mixed reviews, mostly due to issues with the external extractors. Some people contribute when they are angry or disappointed, but I have an Ultra CDP that has just passed the 2000 round mark, and I wanted to describe how impressed I have been with it. I have owned many firearms over the years, but I must admit that the beauty, handling, and accuracy of my Kimber is simply hard to top. I have always been enamored with Glocks but after shooting my G19 and Ultra side by side, it became evident that the Kimber shoots a tighter group. The recoil is obvioulsy more pronounced in the 45, and my Ultra has a nasty habit of sending brass straight back in my face (I am thinking of having a gunsmith tweek my internal extractor), but when I carry it in my FIST kydex #1 holster, it inspires confidence. I've only had 2 FTF and since replacing the Kimber magazine with a Wilson Combat magazine, I have not had a single problem. I admit Glocks are hard to beat for their reliability and dependability, but for someone who wants a powerful, accurate, and good-looking weapon, the CDP series should be considered. Sure, they costs a butt-load of money, but if you ever need to defend your family, you'll be glad you spent a nickel extra.

It is the same with a few other forums, you hear the complaints, but never the good. There's never been a hiccup out of any of the below. From a plain Jane ProCarryII to a Raptor, Desert Warrior, etc. Nary a problem.

If I could find a better 3 inch barrel 1911 than my Kimber Tactical Ultra I'd buy it.:)

One of my buddies shooting his ultra. Note the head area hole then the growinig hole in the center mass area. He will drive tacks with his ultra, when he can no longer see where the bullets are hitting, he wallows them out to about the size of a sauser, then moves to a different area on the target.

Classic 5", Ultra Carry II, both 100% reliable.
Kimber replaced the barrel of the 5" at about 20,000 rounds under warranty. The rifling was a little worn right in front of the chamber.

My Kimber has been incredible. Pin-hole accurate, reliable, tight, comfortable, etc.

I have read on this forum of Sig's having problems right out of the box, so nothings perfect.

I would walk into a fire fight with my Kimber, it's that good.

I recently bought a Kimber Raptor (It was on sale for under $900 and I couldn't resist.) It had some teething problems early on, mainly pre-mature slide lock, but has smoothed out nicely. I'm very happy with my Kimber.

I have a Kimber stainless compact that I bought used. NEVER a problem with anything. Just keeps on chugging and eating anything I feed it.Very accurate too. I carry it a good bit. Good armament.
