Try firing the .45-70 version with full-house loads sometime. They're light and accurate rifles, but they hurt when they get that big. :uhoh:

'Sides, I wouldn't want to hunt big game with something that has no provision for a follow-up shot.

You can get one in .30-06 or even .35 Whelen starting this year. I realize that neither of those are long range 'uber' thumpers like a .300 Ultra mag, or a 7mm mag, but as far as reasonable application of force on any game in North America...thee is no real difference.

Now...if you were lamenting the lack of 'dangerous game' calibers, then I probaby agree with Dionysusigma: Even if NEF made a .375 H&H, a single-shot wouldn't be my first choice to take in to the brush looking for wounded game, guide or no guide.

The receivers aren't wide enough to fit a barrel large enough in diameter at the breech to accomodate a chambering as large in diameter as a Magnum. They're scaled for 30-06 sized chamberings, and the magnums are simply too fat to fit and still have enough metal around the chamber for anything but the low-pressure chamberings like 45/70.

The T/C Encore also has this issue, albiet a lesser issue since the Encore is scaled to handle the 'normal' belted magnums. But you'll not see any of the newer beltless (fat) magnums in the Encore for the same reason as the NEF won't be chambered in anything that's not based on a .473 rim/case head diameter - there's just not enough meat in the action to handle high-pressure chamberings larger in diameter.

Personally I'm waiting for the .460 S&W. I all ready have the .500 but I bet the .460 could really reach out and touch anything I want to hunt.:)

The action is simply not strong enough for those large rounds. The larger case heads combined with higher pressures will strech the reciever to the point of failure. It would be like rechambering a 30-40 Krag rifle to .308 Winchester. *Internet rumor time* I believe someone tried to rechamber a 30-06 barrel to 300 Win mag. The gun fired 6 shots before the receiver failed.

Go spend $100 on a 10 gauge. Get some magnum Turkey loads for it. Shoot it 3 times.

.300 Win Mag is a much fatter cartridge. The walls of the chamber would be a lot thinner when he was done.

(The question remains, of course, why someone would go through the trouble of rechambering a .30-06 just so they could shoot the more expensive .30-06 -- oops .300 Win Mag.)
