The wood on the Vetterli is very nice. Lovely collection.

I recently picked up a walnut-stocked K-31, but I don't know how to tell the date (unless it's the number on the tang . . . 51). Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, no one around here sells 7.5 Swiss.

I recently picked up a walnut-stocked K-31, but I don't know how to tell the date (unless it's the number on the tang . . . 51). Grimjaw, get the serial number of the rifle and look it up here:

There's also a year under the buttplate, but that's the year the stock was made and on many it doesn't match the year of the receiver.
